The Role
I was given freedom and a lot of responsibility throughout my placement which was great, however there was periods where I felt the amount expected of me was far more than other interns would have been doing.
My team always included me, took on board my suggestions, asked my opinion, checked if I was OK, etc. I couldn't have worked with a better team.
I felt there was a lack of "supervision" at times due to people working from home and with managers being based outside the UK. My team did what they could to support me, and the appointment of a new team leader in the office benefitted me.
I felt the first 6 weeks were quite slow as I was ready to go. But from then onwards it was pretty full on, which I enjoyed.
Recruited interns for the UK businesses between September and May. Played a large part in the recruitment of BHGE apprentices for the 2018 intake. Lead intern for the UK. Recruited roles varying from apprentices to operations managers. Therefore, a lot. This was one of the things I enjoyed most about my placement.
Aside from recruitment skills, my communication, organisation and professional skills have developed a lot. Being a multinational company, I was able to interact with people of varying authority across Europe. I am taking my experience with GE into my dissertation topic, and am sure the skills I have developed will be useful throughout my career. I am grateful for the opportunity of working with the company.
The Company
On days where other people were in the office it was always good. The odd day where I was myself, bit boring but no issue.
Difficult to answer. Through team restructuring I was working as a full recruiter for the majority of my time with GE, which meant putting aside a lot of intern related tasks. This suited me better personally as I like getting involved and being given more responsibility, however this may not suit everyone. My team did what they could to suppliment this.
Various online training available 24/7 for all employees. Talent Acquisition team all travelled to Paris for team training/meetings however I was not welcome to this. Although I was doing my best and felt I was doing enough to merit the trip, I was not allowed. This would have been a great experience for any intern, and felt the reasons given for not including me were poorly explained and perhaps unfair.

I had planned to stay with the company on a part-time basis whilst returning to university however was unable to do this due to timetable issues. Future prospects were excellent and I would love the opportunity to return.
The Culture
Good number of placement students in my office as well as others across the UK. Social scene with both interns and colleagues was good.
I lived on my own through choice therefore I accepted this would cost more.
Standard for Scotland, much like Edinburgh or Glasgow.
Joined a local football team through a colleague at work which was another positive to the whole experience. Opportunities are there to those who want them.
