The Role
It was a fantastic work placement within the Fund Finance team. A wide variety of work plus opportunities to develop both hard and soft employability skills. A fast paced and positive team environment and overall an experience which ticked all the boxes a university student would want from a professional training year.
The people within Savills IM were all extremely welcoming and approachable. I quickly felt a part of the Fund Finance team and the business as a whole and they made me feel that I was making a genuine and valuable contribution.
Both the initial handover and then on-going support was understanding and comprehensive; from all my supervisors. It all ensured that I was never in limbo and that I was equipped to perform to the standards required of me.
There was always sufficient and wide range of work to be getting on with and I found it well balanced. The quantity and deadlines could be challenging, as I wanted, but were never unreasonable and came with a high degree of support.
I had a good, high level of responsibility as my training year progressed. This really assisted me in gaining practical experience and insights into effective time management techniques, prioritisation and organisation / planning.
The range of skills I developed will certainly assist in my final year of studies and in the future. The breadth of the work that I was able to get involved with increased my understanding of accounting and finance, and of what real estate investment funds encompass; and this has helped me plan further for my future career. In addition, my MS Excel skills improved significantly and my overall experience of working in an office environment will help going forward. Self management, problem solving and communication skills are just some of the invaluable soft skills gained whilst I was on the placement.
The Company
The atmosphere was positive, rewarding, collaborative, motivating and friendly. It was an terrific office to have fortunately been able to spend a year working at.
The work placement was very well organised, with clearly defined work, structure and handover timetable all contributing to the smooth running of my position when I joined.
