Quantity Surveying Review

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Cushman and Wakefield and was extremely pleased with the amount of responsibility I was given for each task. Knowing that my work would have a real impact on the outcome of a project made me feel very involved in the company from day one.

One colleague in particular on my placement was juggling the work of 7 projects at the same time. I felt truly valued by this member in particular as i helped out with a vast range of tasks in a multiple of areas which not only helped to improve my learning but meant that i was actually of use and not just shadowing.

Any question I had was answered and my colleagues took good care in making sure I not only understood the task that was set to me but tried to include me with as much as they could within my short time at the company.

As the types of projects Cushman and Wakefield are involved in are predominantly commercial fit-outs, it means they have a lot of work going on and I never found myself short of something to do.

I was given a lot more responsibility than i thought that i would given my experience. But i appreciated this and it meant that if you are willing to get involved and are capable, they will trust you to do it.

It has helped me to gain a broadened knowledge and experience in high end commercial fit-out Construction Technology to be able to use in my final year at University. The placement has also helped me to gain skills in a range of different computer software's e.g. ’Excel’, the ‘JCT Contract App’ and ‘CAD measure’. It has also provided me with a clear understanding of the RICS APC framework and the requirements to achieve certain competencies. Finally it has really improved communication skills in the office, both literally and verbally

It was a friendly atmosphere and I feel like i could talk to anyone. Found it weird that everyone would eat lunch at their desk but not really converse as its nice to get out the office. I found it fairly awkward to make phone calls to clients as it was very quiet - but that is something i got better at.

Very well organised- had many talks/ events set up for me on a weekly basis with other interns. This credit goes to the HR team who did a very good job in creating a 4 week journey with a presentation at the end. My team also contributed to organising me with work very well.

Very much so. Presentations were set up to improve our development and progress meetings were done regularly to also make sure I was on the right track. There training seems very thorough and there are a lot of experienced other staff who are happy to share their knowledge with you.

Will definitely like to go back to Cushman and Wakefield. The people are great and the location is brilliant and easy to get to. A 10 minute walk from London Bridge which I only found it is much easier to walk from as oppose to the tube on the last week - This would've saved me a lot of money if i knew earlier, but oh well.

Yes every week there were events to attend, especially with the other interns. Most people tend to go out on Thursdays which is understandable, however makes the office very quiet on Fridays- also understandable. Seemed like everyone was welcome when drinks were on the cards which is always nice as well.

The cost of living and socialising is high however as is everywhere in London. There are places to get a meal deal such as Tesco which is very close to the office which is always good if you fancied grabbing a snack. Many other nice places to eat nearby the office.

Poor in the immediate area (BANK). There are lots of nice pubs but obviously pricey and only really good nearer the weekend. However, there are tube stops all around to get you closer to a more young and vibrant nightlife very quickly. However it is as good as i expected knowing it is really a place for work.

Yes. As interns we took part in a grads v interns softball game as well as various other work drinks and events which we could attend. This Summer was a very hot one and also the World Cup was on so it was a good time to hold these sort of outside of work activities.
