About You
The vacation scheme at Taylor Wessing was a very enjoyable experience and also proved to be a brilliant learning opportunity. The firm and all of its employees were warm and welcoming and I was exposed to some real cutting-edge work which gave me an incredible level of responsibility despite only being a vacation scheme student.
I felt very valued during my time on the Taylor Wessing vacation scheme. There seemed to be a genuine excitement in the office about our arrival and time there, with my team very appreciative of the work I was completing. Everyone seemed interested in us and invested in how well we did.
The 1st day consisted of introductory talks, with plenty of support and guidance given on how to use the various IT systems. I had an incredibly supportive line manager, who mentored me throughout my time on the scheme. Furthermore, the open door policy also meant it was easy to approach colleagues with questions.
The skills and knowledge I developed will certainly benefit me for life! I developed key professional skills, including presentation skills, communications skills and the ability to network. Furthermore, it has been incredibly valuable to see how some of the aspects of work I have learnt at university are apply in practice.
The Company
The vacation scheme was very well organsied, with two week-long seats in different departments (dictated largely by a pre-emailed list of preferences). The HR team were well-organised and responded quickly to emails and the social events organised were also well arranged and fitted into the scheme nicely. Overall, I found this to be a very well-structured programme.
There was a great general atmosphere on this vacation scheme at Taylor Wessing! From our time spent in individual departments to the various social events, the atmosphere was always friendly and made the office an enjoyable place to be which I wanted to keep coming back to. Overall, the atmosphere was one of my favourite aspects of the scheme!
I felt that the firm invested a great deal into my personal development and training. As mentioned, the 1st day consisted of vital IT training, and following on from this there were plenty of other training opportunities. All of the activities and workshop organised for us were aimed at our personal development, and I feel that I was able to get a lot out of this scheme!
The vacation scheme helped me to gain a much better understand of what it would be like to have a full time role with the firm. The work that I was given was reflective of work I would be completing as a graduate trainee and I had the opportunity to have my own desk, experiencing day to day life at Taylor Wessing.
The vacation scheme helped me to understand the company culture at Taylor Wessing. We had a group presentation on diversity, which was indicative of the open and diverse culture. Furthermore, I found there to be a strong focus on maintaining a healthy work life balance, which is somewhat unusual for city law firms.
I found the content and structure of the vacation to be beneficial in helping me to decide on my future career path. The days were structured to allow us to learn more about other areas of the firm alongside the ones we were sitting in, encouraging me to consider areas which I was not previously interested in. This experience re-affirmed my decision to pursue a career in commercial law.
Everything Else
I was paid very well for the two weeks I spent at the firm.
Yes, there were plenty of opportunities to network. Furthermore, there were a number of socials with the trainees allowing to bond as a cohort. We also had a lunch with more senior members of the firm which gave us a great chance to network with all levels of the firm. Most networking opportunities were fairly relaxed too which made it easier to approach lawyers at the firm.
I really enjoyed the networking and social opportunities at Taylor Wessing!
Yes, I found out about many activities that employees can get involved in outside of work.
Yes, I would 100% recommend this insight to a friend!
