About You
I enjoyed the variety on offer: numerous talks, working in a chosen department and assessments. I was kept busy and developed a greater understanding of the firm through talks and speaking to employees. A social event was organised and the trainees were all very approachable and informative. As it was only a week long, sessions did have to be compressed together.
I felt extremely valued because I was only one of eight and HR took care to make sure all our needs were taken care of and we had the best chance to showcase our talents. The work given was stimulating, rewarding and topical. All questions were encouraged and answered well.
I had a buddy and a supervisor, who always made themselves available. HR support was consistently good, and other members of the department made themselves known and offered to help in any way that they could. The trainees as a group provided guidance on what the week would entail and offered practical advice.
The different practice talks will assist me in any future training contract applications, as will the experience of working in a City law firm. The information I received is applicable to other similar law firms and the legal industry as a whole, such as the challenges, opportunities, globalisation and innovation.
The Company
A timetable was provided from the start that ensured the best use of time. All details regarding room numbers and locations were clear, each day had a clear structure and there was opportunities for networking amongst trainees and other staff. As much as possible was fitted into a single week.
Friendly atmosphere, encouraged to ask any questions and it was made clear that there are no stupid questions. Everyone was listened to and the insight was about you getting the most out of the situation. There was never a sense of competing with others, but more a learning and developing atmosphere.
They set up talks from various departments and provided overviews from senior figures in the organisation. A legal research session was provided.
Clear what would be expected of a successful applicant and the responsibilities you would undertake.
Culture was demonstrated by the behaviour of the staff and the values that were emphasised.
I am already set on my future career path, so the content was not decisive.
Everything Else
I was paid for the week I was at the firm.
Yes, particularly with the trainees and associates. Perhaps more opportunities could have been provided.
Okay, more could perhaps have been provided.
Yes, there were talks of outside work activities and what the trainees do.
Yes I would recommend.
