About You
This was my first experience and exposure to a world renowned auditing company, and at first I honestly did feel a little anxious about whether I would fit it or not. However my time at this place has been truly exhilarating and have been able to take a lot of valuable skills and tips to succeed in this field
Feeling valued and actually been seen as someone there was something I think might neglected as this is a busy atmosphere. However this was not the case, the supervisor in charge of me, always made I was doing or seeing something that would allow me to understand more about the work that takes place here. This made sure I was getting the most from my time.
When I started on my first day, I sat down with my supervisor and he thoroughly went through a schedule of what I would be doing. This gave me a good overview for the week ahead. After this I would meet up at the end of day with him, for a debrief session where I was able to clear up any doubts/questions I had.
One of the emphasis in the timetable was various activities that would help my develop and enhance the various skills needed to thrive in a company like KPMG. This included giving a presentation at the end of the week, about my time at KPMG to a group of my supervisor's colleagues. This was a fantastic experience for me, as this an area I want to work on.
The Company
I have to say the insight programme was very well structured and it was done in a way that gave me a good flavour of the various departments in the auditing company. As well as this, they put every effort in combing these activities in ways I could develop my skills, such as teamwork and leadership.
The atmosphere around the workplace was absolutely fantastic. All the staff I was with during my time were very supportive and making sure I was enjoying my time but also making sure I was learning and acquiring new skills. The relationship with my supervisor was also one of the things that made my time there more friendly.
Right from the beginning, during my initial meeting with my supervisor, the thing he mentioned was how they have put together this timetable to ensure as well as seeing the various aspects of the sectors in the company, I would also be able to do things that would develop me as a person. The meetings at the end of everyday was partly to ensure things were taking place as they should.
The insight programme was put together in a way that allowed me to get a good understanding of the work that place there. By the end of the week, I came out with a better picture of the work expected from someone employed there, and I knew this is where I wanted to be. The team I came across were really supportive and friendly.
Before starting this insight programme, I had very little understanding of what it would be like to work in a place like KPMG, apart from speaking to career advisors in school and as expected this did not allow me to have a good idea of what the work would be like. After being at KPMG, I can safely say it reinforced my desire to work and have a career in a place like KPMG.
Everything Else
A big thanks to my secondary school for making this insight programme possible in terms of funding. Without their kind gesture, this valuable experience I have gained would not have been possible. They covered the travel and food costs, but also equally importantly helped put together the application form to get the placement at KPMG possible. Thank you so much, will always be grateful.
