About You
The insight was a brilliant experience. It provided me with a lot of knowledge within the finance department in particular credit control. I had the chance to discuss my future career options with different staff which was brilliant as they gave me an insight on the challenges I may face in the future. Also they were very warm and friendly to talk to allowing me to settle in.
I felt really valued. During my first day I met with all staff and they allowed me to introduce myself to them and vice versa. I had the opportunity to shadow individuals to understand the business better. Also I was involved in daily and weekly meetings which was a great experience.
I was provided a lot of support and guidance during my insight. When I was provided a task I was given the chance to practise with a colleague in case I may needed help. This was very beneficial as it gave me more confidence when carrying out the tasks in the future.
I think most the skills I developed will help. For example submitting reports for the company, improved my time management. This could help with my university revision as well as coursework. Also planning my ideas during the different tasks could help me with brainstorming ideas in group assessed tasks in university.
The Company
The structure was clear since I started. They provided me with a clear timetable of what the next couple of weeks will look like. This gave me clear insight on how my development was going to be like. Also they provided me with a lot of handful notes and exercises to quicken the process of training. Which helped me get stuck into the main work quicker.
The atmosphere was quite positive. During busy times of the day it was a bit more quiet but generally it was quite a lively atmosphere and I enjoyed having conversations with the colleagues. The group have fun and lively conversation which engaged me and it was very fun to be involved in them.
They invested quite a lot of time. They made sure I was fully equipped to do each task and that I got the most out of the work I was involved in. This included attending full day training courses to help me with my development. So overall I think that out quite a lot of time and effort.
I think it gave me a good idea. I had the chance to shadow fellow workers. This provided me with a chance to understand what they do as well as see what challenges they may face on a day to day basis. Furthermore, the insight also gave me an understanding of how each worker had to plan they activities for the day ahead.
I think it gave me a fair understanding on the culture. This was discussed on the first day. I was given an overview by one of the supervisors on the culture of the company. This explained the valued of the company as well as what the company gets involved in during the year besides its normal operations.
I think it was valuable because I enjoyed the work I did. So having the chance in the future to continue in this field would be a great prospect. Also it related to what I was studying in my degree which was great as I now could adapt my knowledge in an industrial environment.
Everything Else
I was paid on a normal basis
There was multiple opportunities for networking and meeting other employees. I had the chance to shadow employees which gave me a better understanding of the work as well as the day to day challenges. I also got the chance to meet people from different departments and see how each department plays a role within the company.
They were very informative and enjoyable. It allowed me to meet new employees from different areas of the business and get their perspective on the company. Also it gave me a chance to ask employees about the challenges I may face if I wanted a career in finance and how I can overcome these.
They mentioned a few at the start but not in detail.
Yes I would definitely recommend it as it improved my career development and I came out of it as a more confident individual.
