About You
Good insight into the company and field of work. Some of the tasks were typical 'intern' jobs, but did get to do a variety of different mini projects. I think overall it was a valuable experience and I would recommend it to others as part of a skills development programme.
The mini projects the interns were working on were not directly of use to the company and therefore it did not feel like we were valued in this regard. However, we did have a assistant who was also involved in company recruitment who we reported to so we were somewhat valued.
I reported to an assistant, who managed the other interns like me, which was very good as this gave me feedback and was helpful for feeling more involved in the company. I would have liked to have received more personalised feedback, as this was sometimes generalised with the other interns.
I was given some independence to develop my skills. Although it was useful to have an assistant who gave us guidance and overall structure to our working days. Although some of the tasks I was asked to do were more tiding or set-up for meetings, which was less helpful for developing my skills.
The Company
Was generally well structured with set mini tasks that I was able to give a hand in. However, some of the jobs did feel as though they were filling in time rather than providing valuable experience. Although in comparison to other intern jobs it had a better system as they were other people like me.
some of the other workers could have been more friendly, rather than being treated a little as 'the intern' . Although on the whole the company was welcoming and the building was nice to work in, clean and had plenty of daily in the office desk areas, which was good.
The mini projects were not directly linked to the big company project and therefore this cannot be said that the company directly invested in us. although we were allowed to attend some of the project meetings to give us more experience of what an actually office day was like, so we were not isolated on our 'intern projects'.
I feel I got to see a reasonable amount of the company and feel that i would have a good idea of the lower roles in the company and there job descriptions and general day to day contribution to the company. I would have liked to see more roles higher up.
I think generally I got quite a good understanding of the company culture from the insight so this was a good element of doing the course. However, because we were more in our insight groups we were still slightly separated from the rest of the company so were not completed submerged in the culture.
I was allowed to attend various company meetings and one of the big events they held which involved other linked companies. This was really good as I exchanged contact details with various people and met many with an insight in to the field of work and made useful links for the future.
Everything Else
Yes I was happy to get my expenses reimbursed and felt this was adequate for the experience I had. These were travel expenses and a small allowance for food for each day. This was an easy process with receipts the company sorted this out and paid quickly each week, which i was happy about.
There were a few networking opportunities within the company. As I was allowed to attend a few meetings I did meet some higher people within the company, which was good because I was able to exchange some contact details. However, because we were more with the other interns this was not a big element to what I was doing.
There were a few networking opportunities, but not really any social events. The networking opportunities were more that we met a few people involved in the company and involved in this field of work. However, because we were more with the other interns this was not a big element to what I was doing.
No I did not really find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work. This was not particularly critically as I was not intended to look for a long term role within the company where something like this may have been of interest to know what it would be like.
yes I would recommend this to a friend as I think overall it was a very good experience to meet lots of people and generate a wide range of contacts for the future. I feel it was also good from a skills development point of view and general work experience.
