The Role
This placement was okay overall, it mainly consisted of accounting for the manager, taking his phone calls and generally practicing in running the shop floor. From time to time I would also have to help out on the shop floor, especially around Christmas and New year as that was when it was particularly busy.
I felt very valued by my colleagues, we all got along really well from day one. We had to work as a team to ensure certain tasks got completed. We all even went out sometimes which makes you feel really valued by all of your colleagues even if you haven't known them for long.
I received quite a lot of support from my employer, every month there was a scheduled 1 to 1 meeting with my employer to discuss my progress and what I would like my next steps to be and what he recommend for them to be. I could also talk to him when I felt necessary.
The programme was very well structured, they scheduled for me to do different tasks over certain amounts of time so I would always be working every day and could experience different sections of my job role. Although from time to time it can get really busy which can be overwhelming sometimes.
After my initial training for the job I was left with rather a lot of responsibility, which was actually really good because it let me experience the company the way it should be. Although sometimes it felt I was left on my own even when I didn't totally know what I was doing.
Throughout my time there I learnt how to deal with public, money and deal with important phone calls. These skills are perfect for future jobs. I also learnt how to deal with transfering money between business bank accounts, a lot of the time I also had to be in charge of a team which is a good skill I developed.
The Company
The general atmosphere was actually rather happy and a lot better than I expected it to be in a place of work, I think this is because everyone there enjoys there job as they all aren't sat at a desk doing the same thing everyday. So overall it was a really enjoyable atmosphere.
The programme was structured really well as I was never doing the same thing all day. This made the job really fun and enjoyable as I was never bored. There was a sechdule set for me at the start of the placement so I knew what I was doing over the next week and a new one was made for me each week.
I received a lot of support from my training provider when working through my tasks, she was very supportive and if I had any questions about my work or my placement she was very helpful and tried her best to make sure I was doing my best. I also received lots of material to learn from.

Future employment prospects within this company are really appealing as most of the jobs within the BBC are really interesting to me. Once I've completed my degree I will be able to secure one of the successful high paying jobs said my trainer whilst I was working at my placement there.
The Culture
Yeah the social scene between other colleagues and students there was actually amazing. We all went out every Saturday night in to Manchester as we all live fairly local. I've actually stayed in contact with quite a few of them even after leaving. Everyone that worked there was actually really nice and helpful.
The cost of living and socialising in Manchester can be rather expensive from time to time so it's all about finding deals really, but that's the same with most places to be honest. I've found that even though it can be rather expensive it's not as bad as when I used to live in London.
The nightlife in Manchester is actually one of the best in the country, so I really can't fault it. If I had to say anything about Manchester nightlife it would just be that sometimes it can be a bit expensive, it's definitely worth it if you want a good night out to socialise with your colleagues.
Yes there was, some of the older people at work went out on Thursday nights to go to the pub quiz night. Although I didn't attend this I went out on Friday and Saturday nights with the other colleagues and went to the local bars and clubs. Which is a really good thing as it gives people opportunities when it comes to socialising.
