The Role
I really enjoyed the variety of work that I was able to get involved with and had the opportunity to work on a few different jobs, giving me a great insight into what it would be like working there full time.
The department I worked in was extremely sociable and friendly, and I felt that I settled in very quickly. There was a variety of team activities and meetings that I went to, which helped me get to know everyone in the different teams.
I was assigned a people manager, who ensured that I reached my objectives for the internship and who listened to any queries that I had about the work I was doing. There were weekly catch ups, which made me feel comfortable to ask about anything I had on my mind.
Since I had variety of tasks to do, this meant that I was usually fairly busy during my internship. All the interns were also assigned a project to complete over the duration of the internship, which meant that I had something to work on if client work was quiet.
The work that I was assigned made me feel that I had a lot of responsibility, as I was given client work and other organisation roles to do.
During the internship, I developed my communication and team work skills, which will be extremely useful in future work. My degree is also highly relevant to the work that I was involved with, so it has made me realise the relevance of my studies to real life work.
The Company
Everyone who I spoke to was very friendly and willing to help out with any queries. My department regularly had social events and it was very easy to settle in.
There was a brilliant introduction at the start of the internship, where all the interns from across the UK met up for a few days of inital training and networking. From then on, we were assigned buddies and people managers who we could easily keep in touch with, and we were made aware of which jobs we would be in at the beginning. It seemed very well organised.
Each intern was asked to set objectives for the course of the internship, and these were assessed regularly to ensure that we were going to meet them. There seemed to be a lot of investment in this aspect and it seemed like it was an important part of the company.
Company Parties/Events
I was offered a job at the end of the internship, and am really looking forward to going back next year.
The Culture
Due to the initial introduction event, it was easy to meet the other interns across the UK. The interns in my office regularly met up and we went for meals/cinema trips/ nights out which was really good fun.
Since I already lived in Edinburgh, the cost was the same as I have always been used to. It is not too expensive.
There are lots of clubs and pubs around Edinburgh to suit a variety of tastes.
There were a lot of sports teams that we could get involved with, and I went along to touch rugby. There were also regular department events that we were invited to.
