About You
The discovery day was engaging and entertaining. I liked working in teams and seeing how the different teams performed against each other. I also liked the way that the simulation moved through the years in order to show us how economic conditions affect our decisions and outcomes. The course was well thought out.
I felt that BP really wanted to give us an insight and ensure that we enjoyed the event and also valued our opinions at the end of the course. We were well looked after and I felt that they wanted us to perform to the best of our abilities and really get something out of the experience.
Before each simulation we were given background information and extra guidance as to how to proceed that day. Members of staff were also on hand and happy to answer any questions/queries that we had at any point. I was happy with the guidance and support that I received throughout the event.
We worked in teams throughout the event which I feel benefitted my team working skills. The simulation also helped us to understand how economic background can affect the decisions we make and we had to be creative in order to overcome problems we encountered. We also took part in a debate which was also a new experience for me.
The Company
Each day had a clear structure and we were informed of this before it started. Different days also corresponded to different years in the simulation and it was good to see how this developed. The evenings were also well structured whilst still allowing us to have some time to ourselves.
The atmosphere was really positive, the scholars were all really friendly and we got along well. The way that the teams were structured ensured that no one was left alone or feeling left out. The staff were all really helpful and seemed interested to get to know us and eager to ensure we had a good time.
Over the course of the 3 years BP I feel they have invested a lot in me. Being a scholar has allowed me to gain a greater insight into the company and I have had the opportunity to take part in many activities which have helped me to develop many new skills.
During the discovery day some current workers talked to us about their current roles and what they do on an average day. These workers were close in age to us and so gave us a good idea as to the sort of thing we would do as a graduate working for the company.
The way that we were looked after throughout the insight showed us that BP really care about their workers. Also the time and effort they invested in us shows that they are invested in inspiring the future generations and happy to put resources into recruiting new talent. The company culture seemed very friendly.
The discovery day did not give us a huge insight as to a future career path. Although we did hear about careers at BP it was not specific enough to allow me to think about a particular career path. It did make me think more about the choices I might have.
Everything Else
We were able to ask questions to some graduates who had recently joined the firm which was helpful. Also all the staff in charge of the programme also talked with us and answered any questions we may have, they were all very willing to talk about their own career journeys.
I would definitely recommend the BP scholar experience. It has introduced me to a number of new areas and ideas. It has also allowed me to develop my skills and given me a much greater insight into the company. I have really enjoyed the experience over the course of the 3 years.
