About You
I found the scheme very enjoyable and insightful. It was well-organised and taken seriously by the firm. The general atmosphere was very friendly and the insight was very helpful as I got to learn more about the firm's work and culture.
I felt very valued during my time at the firm as a lot of people were involved from every professional level. The trainees were exceptionally helpful as they offered business cards and explained that I could email them, call them or even meet for coffee if I had questions. The partners were approachable and offered invaluable insight into the work of the firm.
The guidance offered by the applications workshop was helpful, however, briefer than I thought it would be. Nonetheless, the graduate recruitment team made it clear that they are receptive to any questions and that it is possible to call them if we had questions.
The scheme helped me develop my skills of communication, team work and networking. The drinks event held on the first day helped me allowed me to develop my networking skills as I got the chance to talk to trainees and partners. The work-shadowing experience helped develop my problem-solving and research skills.
The Company
It was very well-structured. The two team activities we did, mediation and negotiation, were extremely well-organised. I found the presence of the trainees was helpful as while we led the activities, the trainees helped provide direction and answered questions.
The atmosphere was professional yet very friendly and not at all intimidating. Everyone was very approachable and very eager to help and answer questions. The other students were highly engaged with the activities which increased the effectiveness of the activities.
As mentioned before, the trainees and graduate recruitment extended their guidance beyond the scheme as they told me they would be happy to answer emails, phone calls or even meet for coffee.
The work-shadowing experience helped me understand the day-to-day role of the trainees. The openness of the trainees to answering questions about the social aspect of the firm helped me understand the collegiate environment present in the firm.
The insight scheme successfully demonstrated the dynamic nature of the firm, its high-profile work and the interaction between each team. Moreover, it illustrated the friendly and supportive environment as advertised by the firm. Lastly, the importance of Pro Bono and how it is something the firm takes seriously.
The scheme reaffirmed my keen interest for commercial law, especially at a City firm. The presentations interested me and the nature of the work HSF does significantly aligns with what I want to do. I will definitely be applying for a vacation scheme at HSF next year.
Everything Else
I was offered the opportunity to be reimbursed for travel expenses and the firm offered accommodation which I did not need as I live in London.
Yes, at every activity. In the mediation and negotiation activities, a trainee sat on our table and helped direct us. The work-shadowing experience allowed me to spend 4 hours with a trainee. I had coffee with him and he gave me his business card. The drinks event was all about networking.
Well-organised, enjoyable and insightful.
Yes, the employees regular work at White Chapel. Apart from the regular work, employees can get involved in graduate recruitment and pro-bono. The trainees and partners talked about the social events held by the firm annually.
Yes, for all of the reasons mentioned above.
