About You
I thought the day was quite enjoyable and you did learn a bit about the asset management industry. I thought some if the speakers were really good and it was a shame they didnt have more. You did have a chance to ask questions, although it was sometime time limited.
I did not feel very valued during the insight day. This is purely because of how many students there were on the day, around 60. Also, you spend the whole day in basically a lecture theatre, so I feel it could be improved by adding more varied activities throughout the day.
We did receive a lot of guidance. The HR team had a schedule and they stuck to it very well, with each activity taking the allotted time. We could also ask questions whenever we were unsure of something and this was actually encouraged which I thought was quite good about the day.
It was only an insight day so obviously did not learn that many skills. However, they covered skills that were needed to successfully get the internship. Also, the fact you were working in teams during the trading exercise, helped to improve teamwork as well as time management which was useful.
The Company
You were given the timetable when you first arrived and it was packed for the whole day, although with many similar activities throughout the day which got a bit repetitive. So cant really complain about it being well structured, just the things that it was structured on was not the best.
The atmosphere was alright. There was a vast range of students from different universites and backgrounds. A lot were really engaged but late in the day it was noticeable a couple were really tired and falling asleep during the speeches. During the trading activities I think the engagement was high.
The firm did not really invest much into you at all. They provided a cold lunch and some refreshments during breaks such as water, juice and coffee/tea. They did invest some of the senior employees time, by coming in and giving talks, which I think was really good of M&G.
Yes it did help. I was interested in the investment divisions and I could ask people questions about the industry and the work they did. However, during the networking they had many more of the technology graduates, which was not as useful for me but may have been for some.
Not much, networking helped a bit
Yes it was quite useful. I want to work in asset management and everything I heard and saw during the day backed this up. The employees at M&G were really enthusiastic about the firm and explain how they invest a lot in your careers which I have found helpful.
Everything Else
They would reimburse travel costs
They were alright. As in you have a speed networking session during lunch but other than that you were more or less confined to a single room for the whole day and could only meet the speakers or HR team. It was very useful to meet everyone else on the insight
As mentioned earlier, they were alright
Not really
Yes, if you want to know more about asset management I would definitely recommend as there is no harm going and you might meet someone from the company that can help you especially if you have any specific questions, as they are willing to answer many of these during the day.
