About You
I enjoyed the Insight day at M&G Investments. The structure was great and very helpful. During the event, we all had time to network with like minded students and also with professionals working for M&G. Moreover, the trading activities they set during the day really helped me understand the basis of investments and how it works.
I felt valued to some certain extent. At the Insight day, we were asked to mingle as soon as we entered the building. The staff that was working at the event was extremely nice and talked to us causally so there was no pressure. At the end of the day, I felt very valued as the Insight helped me understand the people working at the company and vice versa.
I received a lot of guidance and support. As stated in the previous comment, the staff were very supportive and talked to us casually. Additionally, during the networking event, the graduates that talked to us explained their journey from university to working for M&G. The experienced professionals also discussed to us their journey and what we can do to stand out positively.
I believe I developed two skills during the Insight day. My communication skills and my team work skills. This will assist me in my degree as it showed me what is needed to succeed. Additionally, I received a lot of information that will enable me to understand what is needed for my degree in the future.
The Company
The Insight was structured very well. At the start of the day we had the opportunity to network with many individuals. Then throughout the day we had to complete trading exercises that helped us understand the daily job of an M&G employee. One thing I would improve is the timing of certain events. Some events finished too early and others too late.
The general atmosphere of the Insight was amazing. Many like-minded individuals were around each other to boost the overall atmosphere. We all shared similar interests and had the same target during the event, to be able to network and improve certain skills such as our communication, networking, team work skills and more.
The company invested a lot of time into us as students during the Insight day. They showed us the general day-to-day tasks of an average day and how to complete said certain tasks.
The Insight helped me understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company a lot. I got to ask experienced professionals job specific questions to understand not only what they do but how they do it. The trading tasks also give us an idea of what we have to do as an analyst.
Truthfully, the insight did not help me understand the company culture as much as I would've liked. The day consisted of networking, trading exercises and guest speakers so there wasn't a lot of time to discuss the company culture. I would've liked to spend some time on understanding the company as a whole and who they are.
The content of the day was very valuable in helping me decide on my future career path, especially the trading exercises. This gave me an idea on what I have to do and I very much enjoyed it. Also, talking to the experienced professionals helped me to discuss my options for the future.
Everything Else
Unfortunately, the event did not allow for reimbursements or was it paid for. I travelled to the event off my own money but it was definitely worth it. Also, I wasn't paid for this event because it was only a day long and acted as a guidance, not a working day.
There were plenty of opportunities for meeting and networking with other employees of the firm. There was a networking lunch where we could talk to experienced professionals and understand what their job entails. Also, at the end of the day, there was a graduate panel that allowed us to ask further questions from graduates working at M&G.
The networking and social event opportunities were great. We had so much opportunity to network with like minded individuals and other experienced professionals. During each break, we were allowed to talk to graduates and employees. They were very talkative and discussed with us the options and benefits of attending this Insight day.
Unfortunately there wasn't any information about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work.
At the end of the day, I would definitely recommend this Insight day to a friend. This Insight day was very useful. It gave us opportunities to network with employees working at the firm already. Also, the trading exercises helped us understand what we have to do if we take up a job at this company.
