About You
It was super helpful as the employees gave a good insight into what a life at M & G would look like. It was particularly useful since senior employees also told us what makes this company stand out and what position it is in the sector and industry it operates within.
I felt very valued since we were treated as guests and called 'guests' too, we were also offered a range of activities and also a panel discussion at the end with current graduate scheme students that really enabled us to feel welcome and that the company had a genuine interest in helping to build our career with them.
We were told about the recruitment process and what the company was looking for. However, it felt a little general and although this industry is not as well known as for example investment banking, I feel we could have been given more industry specific examples that we should use when applying or perhaps common mistakes or even a trial interview to make us aware with what we could be faced with when applying.
A large extent, the friendliness of the current employees really gave us a chance to openly discuss issues we feel are important when applying for jobs and they gave us lots of specific advice on how to approach situations as such. It has helped me realise other areas I should be focusing on/reasearching when thinking to apply for such jobs.
The Company
It was well structured in terms of what must be achieved, however I feel how it was achieved could have improved slightly. Such as perhaps being allocated to a room rather than a conference room to do the group activities and also predetermined groups since choosing yourselves was slightly more tricker.
I was very positive, everyone there was willing to help and answer your questions in a truthful and useful way. They gave us a true insight towards a working career and understanding not only the job but also the more difficult aspects about it. I think knowing that a morning routine is likely one I will need to adopt, I think now I could be more prepared to adopt one before so the change from further education and career isn't as drastic.
Creating trading excercises which would give us a good insight into what its like to work as an asset manager and how to deal with uncertainty and news. However, I do feel that we could have spent more time discussing why such falls or increases in share prices occurred.
The current graduate panel discussion really helped me understand the difference from education to work because they were in the exact position we would possibly be in. However, I do feel more emphasis on the more difficult aspects of the work such as what happens if we make an wrong investment would've enabled me to get a more well-rounded review.
Lots of insight because the students told us their working days included morning meetings where they discussed their issues and this was different from more other firms in the financial sector. Also it values its people most and this can be seen from the employees told us on the day.
it was helpful as they explained what their work involved but I feel that it could have been a little more engaging such as making us actually do role specific tasks so we fully understand how each role differs specifically. also, I think we could have had more time to talk with current employees.
