About You
It was a great insight into the financial sector, discovering the company’s different businesses and programmes. All the team worked together to help all the Spring Week Interns to discover their own pathway and passions, speaking with past interns and graduates in the company. The Q&A sessions have been also very helpful.
In all moment they made us feel like we were a great group yo have in the company, treating us very well to make sure we felt comfortable in every moment. All the activities were very entertaining and focused on teaching us skills and valuable knowledge towards our potential career in Barclays
They team that spent most of the times with us was extremely helpful in solving queries about the spring weeks and furthermore more specific questions about summer internships or graduate programmes. They insisted we could reach out to them at any time in case we had any other doubt.
All the knowledge I gained during the Barclays Spring Week has helped to realise what I actually enjoy doing inside the financial services, which will allow me to join different societies in university that can help me to continue discovering where my passions are.
The Company
Most of the activities and talks were well organised, with the objective of giving us an overview of how working in Barclays is, not only the actual job but also the overall company’s culture. As a way of improving the experience, I would recommend to clarify some of the explanations, as some of them had many complex concepts and acronyms.
The general feeling during all the week was great. All the interns were very friendly and nice, which allowed to have a relaxed space to work. All the staff was very approachable and willing to solve any concern we had.
In terms of training, we didn’t receive much specific lessons, ad the objective of the speing week was more about discovering how the company is organised anf operates and what are out opportunties inside the company, rather than training us regarding specific skills or knowledge related to the company’s different businesses.
The most valuable activity that allowed us to better understand this was the work shadowing with the graduates. They explained us how they were feeling about the rotations around the different sections of Barclays UK, including their favourite aspects and useful tips for us in case we pursue a career inside the company. This really helped us imagine how having a real role in the company is.
They fact that they constantly insisted in the values of the company showed they care a lot about how the culture is portrayed in every detail and issue happening inside Barclays. All the graduates talked about how friendly and nice their line managers and bosses are, saying that you can always ask in case you need some help or advice about something.
All the experience has helped underztand how banks operate and how Barclays is adapting to all the chsnhes happening regarding innovation and growing competitors. I really liked how they approach all these things and I am grateful for giving me a clear vision of the broad range of jobs and opportunities inside Barclays.
Everything Else
The Barclays team paid for our accomodation and our lunch inside the offices, apart from giving us £250 as a salary for our job during the week. This is great as they show they value and recognise our effort, making us feel rewarded and satisfied with the overall experience at the company.
Of course. Everytime you were assigned a graduate to talk to and ask questions about how they felt about working at Barclays, their experiences, highlights and advice, we were also encouraged to ask them for a way of contacting them in the future, which oftently was Linkedin. This is very helpful as we can text them if we have any concern or questions they can help us with.
They were quite good because they brought plenty of graduates who were currently working at the company to share their experiences with us, providing also the opportunity to have a little chat with them afterwards and ask them about the best things about working at Barclays and their future career aspirations.
Talking to the graduates I discovered how many of them develop close links with each other that go further from working relationships. They oftern go to have dinner together and also play sports together, which is great because you get to know others in a different way you interact with them at work.
I would deffinetely recommend this experience as I think is a fantastic experience to meet new people, get new skills and furthermore discover your interests, passions and potential areas where you could build a career. During these 5 days you will get such a valuable lnowledge that will not only help you in your future working experience but also to realise what you like and don’t like doing.
