About You
I very enjoyed the insight, it exceeded my expectations. The atmosphere was very friendly and welcoming. I had a chance to experience how working for Barclays would look like and was given a lot of information that helped me decide if this was something I was looking for as a possible future career.
There were chances to develop our teamworking, communication and problem-solving skill during various workshops and excercizes which I see valuable regarding my future career. I found the spring insight very inspirational in terms what Barclays offers and how many roles are within Barclays UK. beside that I received inforomation about financial markets which could help me in my future studies.
The Company
The spring insight week as Barclays was structured very well. The structure was very clear and the actual program was held according to the structure. We were given access to the program structure through a mobile app so that we could see what was going to happen over the week.
The atmosphere were very friendly, fun and inspirational. The people in the group came from various universities across the UK and even further from Europe and from different backgrounds. The more formal programme was complemented by various team activities that we really enjoyed and that helped us to get to know each other better.
There were session related to a behaviour at a workplace where we were thinking about examples of good and bad behaviour at a workplace and were given advice how to answer such questions in an interview. Besides that we were given a lot of advice on interviews and assessment centres from recent interns and graduates.
The understanding what it would be like to have a full time role with Barclays was one of the main things I wanted to gain from the spring week and I feel we were given significant amount of information so that we could make such a picture. We had shadowing sessions and speakers from different sectors of Barclays UK coming to talk to us.
Based on the shadowing sessions, various talks from graduates but also more senior employees, off-site visits and workshop we had many opportunities to understand the company culture and also the difference in cultures between different sectors within Barclays UK and also what makes Barclays culture different from other companies in that sector.
I found it very valuable. The most valuable part for me were the shadowings of graduates who provided us with a point of view that was the most close to us and give us their own personal experience with Barclays. Besides that there was a lot of space for questions after each session which enables us to ask a question about anything we were unsure about.
Everything Else
Were were reimbured travel expenses to and from the location of the Spring Week. Beside that were were given a daily allowance for lunch in Barclays' canteeen and one-off payment that covered our other expenses over the week. People living not close to the location of the spring week were also provided accommodation.
We had two work shadowing sessions with graduates that provided us not only with the opportunity to see how they daily job look like but mainly with the opportunity to ask many questions and widen our networks within Barclays. Besides we met many interns and employees from each division of Barclays UK.
I would highly recommend the spring week at Barclays to anyone considering baking industry or even any other career within financial services. The week was very inspiring, I met many new people, get an insight to the working culture and activities that are going on right now within the banking industry and even beyond.
