About You
Everything was very well organised, and the insight delivered exactly what it promised; an insight into Barclays and what roles are available for me. The week was packed with activities and I especially enjoyed the networking and work shadowing events, since they provided an inside perspective on how Barclays works.
From the start my ideas were valued, and during group work everybody was respectful and inclusive, which is what I would have expected for a global firm like Barclays. Throughout the week the environment was safe, which meant that I could ask anything and I would get a genuine answer.
I received a lot of guidance, especially on the first day, to get me to grips with how the work culture at Barclays is. Whenever I needed anything someone was always there to help with a smile.
The technology used at Barclays provided me with insight into how cutting-edge technologies are being used in the financial industry, and the various talks throughout the week told me a bit how they might be implemented. Being a linguistics student, I’m particularly interested in voice biometrics technology.
The Company
The agenda was very clear and strictly followed, to the point that a lot of people were almost being cut off prematurely! That meant that everything happened at the right time, and that the overall organisation of the week was excellent.
The atmosphere was very inclusive and lived up to the Barclays values of respect, integrity, service, excellence and stewardship. I was never afraid to ask a question, and everyone was generally friendly and approachable.
They invested in me a lot. There were leadership and CV workshops.
The networking events were particularly useful in giving me an insight into what life would be like at Barclays full time.
The values were very clear, and lived up to every day. The talks particularly helped with my knowledge in finance and how the bank works and is actually structured.
The content helped me choose the path of developer. I’ve been told it’s quite flexible however so I can choose to do a different role later on if I want.
Everything Else
Train tickets were reimbursed and a £250 sum will be paid to me at the end of the week. I appreciate that.
There were a number of networking events, each of which were very useful in shedding light on life at Barclays, and in particular how one might build their career at the firm.
The networking events were useful for the reasons highlighted above.
Talking to the member of staff I shadowed, she told me that the work-life balance at Barclays was very good, and that she regularly went out for team lunches.
Definitely. Everything was great.
