About You
The spring insight lasts for five days in total and Barclays will totally keep you busy. Most interesting are the insights into the company itself, but they also do general CV, leadership and personality workshops which I found a bit misplaced at times. On the final day there is an opportunity to interview for a summer internship.
They take a lot of effort to sell themselves to you and to appear as a very friendly and responsible employer. There are many opportunities throughout the week to make personal connections with employees at Barclays and to talk to recent graduates and more senior employees.
You will feel well prepared for the interview since you learn a lot about the company throughout the week and theyvalsp discuss common interview questions in a workshop.
The week gives you more of an insight into the financial industry - technology. Obviously they try very hard to make it look like working in finance is more interesting than at any other technology company.
The Company
The graduate networking was after we had to make the decision of whether to interview for the developer or technology analyst role. Would have been better to talk to the people on the graduae scheme first.
Relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Hardly felt like an assessment throughout the week. Meet a lot of friendly peers.
They organised a lot of workshops to really help us for our careers.
There are some work shadowing sessions where you can ask many questions about the work.
They emphasise their supportive and collaborative work culture a lot.
It is definitely valuable as an insight, especially the opportunity to talk to other recent graduates about the reasons for their career choices.
Everything Else
You get paid for the week a set amount. Generally speaking there also is travel reimbursement (and accomodation if leaving more than 90min away from the location), but if you live too close to the location you have to pay for transport (except Monday and Friday) yourself. Together with the payment you still end up with a plus though!
Lots of opportunities to meet people throughout the technology department.
Lots of opportunities to meet people throughout the technology department.
Yes, you can ask people all kind of questions.
It is a valuable insight and you’ll meet many nice people. It’s also a good chance to make connections within the industry.
