Spring Intern Review

It was a very interesting and enriching experience with a wide variety of activities. The talks and sharing are very informative while the group activities are very engaging. I am very impressed by the scope of this programme which allowed me to learn more about the different teams under both the banking and the market division.

I am very impressed by Barclays' commitment to creating opportunities for us to learn as much as we can. I feel especially valued at Barclays because there are many people from the senior management level who are willing to take the time off their busy schedule to network with us and share their experiences.

The amount of guidance and support I received throughout the week went far beyond my expectation. Firstly, I am extremely thankful to my buddy who shared his personal experience with me and also gave me a lot of advice. Furthermore, I learned a lot about the specific teams in Barclays from the various talks and sharing by the current employees of Barclays.

The insight programme provided me with a lot of information about the bank as well as what entails for a career at the bank which I feel that I could not have learnt on my own. I gained a much deeper understanding of the different divisions and teams which is very helpful for me to identify my specific area of interest.

The insight programme was very well structured and organised. I really liked the balance of different types of activities such as workshops, talks&sharing and networking sessions. However, I do feel that there can be more time made available during the programme for us to arrange for coffee or meetings with the employees.

The atmosphere is very uplifting and energetic. Everyone is very passionate, motivated and driven. There is also a very strong culture of teamwork and collaboration; everyone is willing to help each other out. Also, everyone I met at the programme is very friendly which makes me feel very welcomed at Barclays.

Barclays is very committed to helping everyone at the bank to develop to their full potential. For example, we had workshops targetting our soft skills such as communication and teamwork; while there are also learning sessions targetted at equipping us with the relevant technical skills that are essential for a career in banking.

I learnt a lot about a career at Barclays from a wide range of activities throughout the insight programme.

I feel that the best way to get to know a company's culture is by experiencing it personally, and the Insight programme is definitely a wonderful opportunity to do so.

I definitely gained a deeper insight into the specific roles in Barclays which is extremely helpful for me to match my strengths, skills and interest to pinpoint which is the specific team or position I am passionate in.

There are indeed many opportunities to network from employees from various levels and from different divisions of the bank.

There is a very diverse range of networking sessions through the insight programme. For example, there is a networking dinner with the senior management from different sectors of the bank. We also get to network with employees from both the banking and the market division for the networking lunch on two days of the programme.

There are many opportunities to network with people who are taking on different roles in the bank. Everyone is willing to share about their lives, which includes things such as work-life balance and what they like to do outside of work. There are also opportunities to learn more about what Barclays is doing to enrich the lives of its employees outside of work.

I would recommend this insight programme to anyone who is interested to learn about the culture and atmosphere at Barclays or just about a career in banking in general. It is also a great opportunity to make friends with others who are also equally passionate about pursuing a career in banking.
