About You
I really enjoyed the insight into investment banking and all the different types of roles involved. It was great meeting people from different backgrounds and I made some really good contacts. It was very inspiring hearing the Barclays employees speak about they're jobs and I would love to pursue a career at Barclays. I am so grateful of this opportunity and would recommend it to anyone interested in a career in investment banking.
I think the thing about Barclays that makes it stand out the most in comparison to other Banks is the people. No matter what position you are and what knowledge you have. People are very friendly and more than willing to answer your questions to help you to learn more about the finance industry.
The week was very intense and I am studying Chemistry at university so I didn't have as much knowledge as someone studying economics or finance at university. However I received a lot of support, everyone I met was willing to answer my questions and if anything we were encouraged to ask any questions from the most basic things to something advanced.
The skills I developed will also help me with my degree but can definitely be classed as skills for life. For example, public speaking, research and pitching ideas to a panel of Barclays employees through participating in a debate. Also the ability to absorb a lot of information at once and then present it to
The Company
We were given a timetable to structure the week so we knew what we were doing. There was also an app which allowed us to see our fellow peers and be more interactive via participating in polls about current affairs. There were also some breaks where we were able to speak to our peers and get to know each other.
It was a very friendly atmosphere and incredibly diverse so I got the opportunity to speak to people from all different backgrounds and cultures. We had a lot of group work and interactive sessions as well as a lot of talks from professionals in the business - so it was the perfect balance.
They really helped us to develop our skills as an individual. We had a workshop on persuasive speaking and how we can learn to speak passionately in front of an audience. This was very useful with our debate.
There were many networking sessions throughout the week so we got a firsthand experience by speaking to several people about their day to day lives and what they're job entails.
I already know some people who work in Barclays but I knew little about the investment bank culture. The insight really showed me that at Barclays it feels like a family they value all they're staff and promote diversity. There are many things they do when you work at Barclays to reinforce this and you can join clubs to speak to people with common interests.
It was very valuable we learnt about every sort of job in investment banking and the markets. Through speaking to several people in each sector I got a really good overview of each job and then I finally decided on the future career path I want to take.
Everything Else
We were paid £250 for out time at the bank and all our travel was reimbursed.
There were plenty of chances of networking with many people and there was an opportunity for this every day of the week. The people we met were more than willing to meet up or stay after work to discuss anything we wanted to later and answer any relevant questions we had.
They were thoroughly enjoyable and lasted a good amount of time so I could speak to most the people who were there. I made some excellent contacts with people in the business who I plan on keeping in touch with.
Yes we had an insight into the many activities that Barclays staff can participate in. There were things called "embrace" and "spectrum" where you can meet people from all over the bank and connect with people with common interests.
Yes, I would highly recommend this insight to a friend in fact I already have. It was incredibly insightful and the people were very friendly and genuinely wanted to help.
