About You
I enjoyed the sprig week a lot, I feel that I learned a lot of information about a range of both specific and broader areas of work in banking. I found the first day quite overwhelming but grew in confidence throughout the week and felt like I developed a number of professional skills by the end of this week.
We were given a good amount of time shadowing graduates and made to feel as if the company wants us to succeed which made me feel cared about by the company. HR did a lot to make people feel comfortable and get the most out of the experience and all speakers had very interesting jobs within the bank.
We received a reasonable amount of support from Human Resources staff throughout the week in terms of what to do, where to go and how to perform well in the future phone interview. However some of the talks were quite daunting with regards to the amount of information given to us that was left unexplained, although this is understandable given the time frame.
I believe my communication and presentational skills have improved significantly throughout the week which I believe will significantly helpful when having to present as a part of my university work. Also my ability to contribute to group work and effectively take notes regarding practical information rather than pure academics will help me in the future.
The Company
Very well structured, throughout the week there was always time slotted for each different activity which very rarely over ran. Coming back from the plexal lab was an exception of this which meant that most of lunch that day was cut short however the rest of the week went smoothly.
The atmosphere although intimidating for someone with limited banking experience, was much more friendly than expected and I think a lot of us were expecting a much more hyper competitive environment. I think staff made efforts to have us look at each other as colleagues rather than competition which I was pleasantly surprised by.
There were a lot of oversights of entries departments, but I found it difficult to grasp what many different roles involved day to day.
Everything Else
£250, plus travel expenses
In work time yes with graduates
No social events but negtworking opportunities
Yes lots of charity, life skills and extra curricular programs that were available.
Yes, I feel I have gained a lot from this week and would do it again myself.
