    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I throughly enjoyed the insight programme. The location and the people running the insight made it a very good experience. I learned a lot about the Barclays business and the financial sector itself. Alongside this, sessions were engaging and it was great how each business area had their own time slot.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I have felt valued. There has been a large focus on application to the summer internship, which makes me feel valued, due to a feeling of potential. Alongside this, we have been able to ask many question which have received genuine answers, which allowed for a true insight into issues that may not be given to a standard person.

    3/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • I have received a large amount of guidance in regard to the specific business areas within the bank. A combination of speaking to graduates who are currently on the programme, and employees who work in CP1, made my decision of business area much easier. Alongside this, all questions I had were answered.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have developed a variety of team work skills during the spring week programme. I have to complete a large amount of group projects as a part of assessment for my degree in both Geography and Economics. These are the skills I can apply to my degree in light of this.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The programme was very well structured. An agenda for each day was posted onto an easily accessible app, which made it easy for me to see when I was needed to be at CP1. Alongside this, I was able to see what sessions we would be doing on each day.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The atmosphere was nice, and everyone was very welcoming. Everyone was willing to answer my questions, including long time employees and and current grad scheme members. Alongside this, the Barclays culture is very welcoming, allowing for you to show your personality and characteristics; which was a great part of the atmosphere.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Barclays invested their time in me to start with. I was very grateful that each area, Business Banking, Customer Banking Solutions and Savings, Investments and Wealth Management, was able to give a good proportion of their time to speak to us as a group. This allowed for a development in my own knowledge.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • It helped me understand the concept of a 9-5 job. Timekeeping is crucial, and making sure I managed the commute to keep to particular timings was a valuable lesson. I also learnt that there are multiple roles within the Barclays business, and makes me realise that the jobs are actually very diverse..

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • I came to the Spring Week expecting a rigid structure of a bank, but I was extremely surprised by the Barclays culture. To succeed in Business Banking, Customer Banking Solutions and Savings, Investments and Wealth Management, you are able to be yourself, and show your own characteristics, within the workplace.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • The talks in Business Banking, Customer Banking Solutions and Savings, Investments and Wealth Management were the most helpful. I was originally conflicted between two areas, but after a talk with two graduates I decided on Business Banking. I now know that this is the career path I want to pursue.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I was paid £250 for expenses and then reimbursed for my travel costs for the 2019 Barclays UK Business Banking, Customer Banking Solutions and Savings, Investments and Wealth Management Spring Week. This was very convenient for myself as a first year undergraduate university student, when funds are low due to all student costs!

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Yes, there were opportunities to meet graduates from the areas of Business Banking, Customer Banking Solutions and Savings, Investments and Wealth Management. I was able to have 1 on 1 chats with a grad, get their details for future contact. Networking in the evening could be a suggestion for a future programme.

    3/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • They were very good, in all three areas - Business Banking, Customer Banking Solutions and Savings, Investments and Wealth Management. I was able to get good information from employees in each area. In future, more networking events could be put in place as they are very beneficial indeed for us.

    3/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • I met graduates and employees from all three areas, Business Banking, Customer Banking Solutions and Savings, Investments and Wealth Management, who get involved in community work outside the bank as a part of their job. Alongside this we had scheduled talks about this part of the business and how important it is.

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Yes, as you got to learn about Business Banking, Customer Banking Solutions and Savings, Investments and Wealth Management. It was an amazing programme, in an amazing location! All the staff were very friendly, and it was a really nice environment. I would for sure recommend this for future first years.
