    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • The experience has been extremely insightful. We looked at over a dozen different departments and how they operate within Barclays. We shadowed some current employs, both graduate students and senior staff. The point of the spring week is to see how Barclays operates and what roles they offer to current students. At the end of the spring week, you are interviewed and complete a group presentation, with a chance of receiving a summer internship.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • My whole time at Barclays, I felt extremely valued even as a spring week attendee. Barclays covered all traveling expenses (apart from Taxi's), including flights for international students. Barclays paid for a Hotel and Spa, locally, including breakfast and dinner. Lunch was covered with a daily allowance, which could be used at any Starbucks, restaurants or shops on campus.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • Support and guidance at the Barclays spring week were to a very high standard. They supported a diverse range of students and made sure that no one was left out. They included a lot of workshops that covered making the perfect CV for Barclays, how to prepare for your interview, etc.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Although I did not learn anything particularly related to technology at Barclays, that I can talk about on here (You sign an NDA to not talk about current projects outside Barclays). It's been very insightful to network and speak to directors, graduates, apprentices, and receive advise and help that can be used in my professional career.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The insightful was structured very well. Everyone was given a login to an app a week before you attended the spring week. Inside the app, there is an agenda and information about where it will be located, which can be imported into your calendar. The app at first had a slight issue but was fixed before the week started.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The atmosphere was inspirational. Speaking to graduates made you want to work here, meanwhile, the directors and VP's made you want to work for them. Everyone else here is super motivational and enthusiastic, with both the group project, workshops, and networking events. Katie and Rachel, who ran the event were super friendly and helpful!

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • As this was limited to a week, there would always be limits in what personal development you could make. It's clear that Barclays have spent a lot of time and resources into developing this spring week. From bringing in guests from all over the UK to planning all the transportation when visiting Eagle Labs, etc. its been great. Barclays has really tried to make sure that people who attend the spring weeks have the highest chance of succeeding in interviews and assessment centers in the future.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • The spring week provided a lot of information about what it's like to work within Barclays. There were many talks about the departments and many opportunities to speak to current employs to see what it is like working here. The only thing that would have made the spring week better is having the opportunity to select what type of work shadowing you wanted to complete, whether it's more "Technical" or "Analytical", I shadowed two people who worked in the business side, when at the time I wanted to know more about shadowing developers, etc.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • The culture at Barclays is outstanding. Radbroke does a really good job to make sure they can do as much as they can to make people happy on the campus. They run a variety of sports and extra-curricular activities, which vary from cooking sessions to learning new languages. Barclays also makes the place fun to work in, whether that's table football, darts or Xbox's darted around or social spaces to speak an meet people.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • The content of the day has made it really helpful in terms of finding out where and who I want to work for. Traditionally, Electrical Engineering isn't really the subject that is chosen for those wanting to go down the analyst sight, but it's given me confidence that it is definitely easy for me to do so.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I was paid and reimbursed. I was paid an undisclosed amount and had any expenses reimbursed. The only exception is for taxis, otherwise, trains, buses, flights and everything in-between was reimbursed. The 4* Hotel with a spa, was fully paid for including food throughout the week and the Sunday which you arrived at the hotel.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • The Barclays Spring Week was full of networking opportunities. Even directors were super helpful and wanted you to add them on LinkedIn to ask them questions or any queries about the departments. There was on average at least one networking event each day and some longer events which were more sociable, rather than professional.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • Not only did Barclays run multiple events in the Technology Spring Week, but employees not working or helping run the Spring Week were friendly. Even grabbing lunch or walking around Campus, people were super friendly and social and provided honest information about working for Barclays.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Yes, the spring week is full of activities that employees can do outside work. Most employees have full flexibility about what hours they can work. Some graduates come in early to go on the gym on campus, then start work early, so they can finish early. Others take breaks through their day to compete in football matches on campus and return to their work after.

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • 100%, as long as you apply at different locations. It's important to network and meet new students around the UK/Europe. Bringing a friend might limit that so keep that in mind. Otherwise, get as many of your friends to apply so you can all experience the Spring Week and Redbroke Hall.
