Spring Operations Intern Review

I enjoyed Barclays Spring Week to a great extent, due to the experience I've had with regards to information delivered from the respective transaction cycles and my time spent with the other interns. Having the opportunity to spend a week at Barclays HQ has being invaluable to me and has given me better insight as to how they operate.

During my time at Barclays I feel as though I have been valued to great extent, as the different speakers that I encountered have been more than happy to listen to questions, and give further advice and information on their roles within the company. This was an important factor for me as I chose to apply for this insight week for that exact reason.

I received as much guidance as I requested from the senior employees at Barclays which has made the experience as seamless as possible. Whenever there were minor issues, they were resolved quickly and efficiently which is something that is I found extremely reassuring. The transaction cycle speakers were also very supportive in the way that they were willing and able to answer the majority of questions posed to them.

During my Spring Insight Week, I developed skills with regards to working as a team and how to be more efficient in our allocation of resources and skills. Furthermore, the inclusion of a team project has developed my research skills and ability to find appropriate information that coincides with the group.

Personally, I feel as though the insight week was structured extremely well. The initial three days of the insight week were spent learning about the different transaction cycles which were extremely informative and gave a detailed analysis of each cycle. This left the final two days for questions to senior figures about the company, time to work on our projects and choosing our desired transaction cycle for out 2020 summer internship interview.

I found that the general atmosphere during the insight week as very positive. Being around other like-minded interns who are willing to learn has had a positive effect on me in terms of the way that we worked together during our project and how we collaborated with regards to that.

Personally, I feel as though the firm invested in me with the activities that they provided such as IDG who came in and spoke to us about followship and leadership. This talk was a good self-learning exercise and helped me understand good and bad behaviour in followship to create a good working environment.

I understand to a great extent the time and desire that you must have in order to work with the company.

The insight week helped me understand the core values of Barclays more than I had expected. I was extremely impressed with the dedication that the employees at Barclays displays towards fulfilling these values and implementing in everything that they do. Furthermore, the level of diversity within the company is one of the key point which have fuelled my desire to continue working with them.

The content of the day was extremely valuable as it helped me decide on my transaction cycle for the summer internship interview.

There were opportunities to meet with other senior employees who have worked in the firm which were extremely informative.

Personally, I found the networking event as an excellent opportunity to find out more about the employees at Barclays outside of those who work within the transaction cycles that we had received talks on earlier in the week. During these events, we also met with other interns working in a different part of Barclays which I found extremely insightful.

During the networking evening, I was made aware of several schemes that Barclays run with regards to delivering a service were all backgrounds are respected and valued. These are activities that employees can get involved in outside of their regular work due to their apparent passion and desire to make a difference in their chosen area.

I would definitely recommend this insight week to a friend due to the experience that you gain leaning about the corporation from the inside out. This insight week is also key to entering the next stage of the internship in the summer as you will be less overwhelmed as you already have previous experience of being a part of the company.
