About You
I have found the insight week to be much more informative and interesting than I had anticipated. I have loved getting to know the people here and seeing the culture of Barclays come through. I really feel that the culture - the understanding, the willingness to succeed and do well, the positive vibe around the offices and the emphasis on diversity and inclusion - has been reiterated in almost everyone I've spoken to. This, to me, shows that the culture is not just 'put on' for visitors, but is embedded in the organisation.
I have felt very valued whilst I've been here. The staff are incredibly helpful and accommodating. I love that everyone is open to help and answer any questions I may have.
All the sessions have been interesting and engaging. I feel I have received a lot of guidance with regards to where I may want to go in the future, in the financial industry.
I think that the ability to work in a team, with strangers, on a project, where none of us understood what it was, has been a real learning curve. Listening to each other, taking each others points of view on board and adapting it into the presentation has been something I have learnt to do.
The Company
Very well structured. It was a shame that the tubes let us down one day, but that can't be helped!
Warm, friendly, approachable and a generally open environment where you could ask anything at any time.
I thought that Barclays invested in the skills that we already had and tried to develop them. Eg. the project. I felt that the insight week was more focused around developing knowledge of Barclays rather than directly developing skills.
Before coming to Barclays, I did not understand the breadth of skills that were available in a bank. Having now understood that, it has allowed me to see myself working in the financial sector. In terms of Barclays, as already mentioned, I have loved seeing the culture here and I feel that the opportunities for progression and the encouragement to do this, is amazing!
As said above, I have been amazed at how the culture is ingrained into the people here. It is not just a show put on for any visitors or potential employees, I have genuinely felt that the culture and values are held by each employee.
I always like to keep an open mind, but the insight week has definitely opened my eyes to a real possibility of me coming to work in the financial sector and for Barclays. This is something that I hadn't seriously considered.
Everything Else
Yes, adequately. And they offered me accommodation which was great - I wouldn't have been able to come otherwise.
Yes. We met people daily when they came to give talks, we had a networking evening and we shadowed an employee.
Fantastic. I thought they were really well structured and organised. If I had to give one opportunity for improvement, it would be for name badges for all, including Barclays employees, so you knew what they did or what TC they were linked to.
A little. It was touched on that employees can fundraise and that Barclays match this up to £1000 (which is great!).
I thought that it gave a true insight into the organisation and what opportunities they have available.
