About You
It was a great learning experience, and very insightful into the day-to-day work of investment banking. However, there were some moments where it could get a bit boring, since my work shadowing buddy didn’t have anything to give me to do.
I felt very welcomed, everyone wanted to assure me that they valued me as a person and that my thoughts and opinions would be heard. Still, since I didn’t get to do any work of my own, there was no way to feel like my work specifically was valued.
Everyone was happy to answer all my questions, which was great!
While I do t think the skills I learned will help me for my degree, they will definitely help if I end up deciding to go into investment banking.
The Company
The insight had regular workshops and networking events which was good. There was also a lot of unstructured ‘desk’ work shadowing time with your assigned buddy - I got a lot out of that for the first couple of days, but by then I’d seen the range of stuff he was working on and found it a bit boring.
The company was very welcoming, everyone was very friendly and helpful, from analysts to even managing directors (although of course they didn’t have that much time to chat!) HR was very enthusiastic about having us there, which was so encouraging!
I don’t think it took them that much to invest in me, especially since it was only a week long. However, they definitely invested money in me.
It really gave me good insight into the work type, the working hours, the time commitment and learning opportunities, as well as the interesting sides and frustrations of working in investment banking as an analyst.
The insight week really let me see that Citi both talked and walked the talk about being inclusive and welcoming. And that it didn’t necessarily live up to my hope of an okay work-life balance.
It gave me really good insight into investment banking, which is really helpful in deciding whether I want to do that, as well as which sector.
Everything Else
Reimbursed expenses, which for the week is pretty great!
Lots of networking dinners for four days of internship.
Two networking dinners, one with seniors and one with juniors, gave me lots of opportunities to learn about different areas of the job and meet new people.
Not much on that.
If they’re interested in investment banking and/or in Citi, definitely!
