About You
I found it really useful for giving me a better in depth understanding of the different functions within Barclays. I really enjoyed the lay out of it. Everyone was very welcoming and friendly which made a difference. Barclays supplied us with food (breakfast and lunch) and accomodation for the duration of the week also.
There was a strong emphasis on the importance Barcalys places on graduates and spring week student. It was evidently a success for Barclays as many employees whom we spoke with were once on the spring week, internship or graduate scheme. It is clear they put a lot of effort into the scheme as we spoke to senior managers regarding their areas of functions.
We had the chance to ask questions several times a day to almost anyone. The only thing letting you down was not being able to choose your work shadowing after hearing the different areas insights and not being able to choose the internship interview area after the work shadowing. Also a one on one brief talk with someone regarding what they think would best suit your personality would be beneficial.
Obviously this is very hard to tell as I am still on the course and have not continued my career progression thus far. The information received was interesting and useful and so will most likey impact and assist how i further choose to study and begin my career after university.
The Company
It was very well structured. There were sufficient breaks and the days weren't to long either. They managed to get a lot of information into a very short time. Again however, due to having to book people and events in advance the disadvantage was we were unable to choose our preference after finding out more first.
The atmosphere was really good. There was no one who let the side down and did not put across their energy and passion for their job and Barclays itself. Both Remmy and Jai were lovely and always willing to help. The other candidates were really friendly also. You couldn't fault the atmosphere really.
They invested heavily as they managed to get senior members of functions to take time out of their busy schedules to speak with us. It was clear an awful lot of preparation and time and investment had gone into developing the insight week. Obviously due to us being there such a short time they weren't really able to develop our personal triaing fundamentally.
We had reasonably long days but due to us having a broad insight into the business rather than a narrow depth this was somewhat limited however it gave a really good view into the business. The graduates were great to speak to as they were honest in their opinions and so you did get a real view of the company.
It gave a really good view into the business. The senior speakers did portray it as slightly sunshine and roses and obviously every job and everything does have a downside to some extent. The graduates were great to speak to as they were honest in their opinions and so you did get a real view of the company. Eveyrone was friendly
It was really valuable. I have actually changed my mind as to what I want to do and where to an extent as I now have a better understanding. I would still like to further this through an internship however. Speaking to senior managers did give you a better understanding of career progression also.
Everything Else
Our travel to London and from London was payed for and accommodation, organised and booked by Barclays, was payed for by them too. We were given both breakfast and lunch at Barclays and were to buy our own dinner. We were reimbursed to an extent for costs, such as daily travel etc also.
There were several insight sessions with both seniors and then graduates who we were able to speak with. We had two senior pannels on the second last day who we could ask questions too. There was a graduate networking session. There was a general networking session also which lasted 2 hours.
Really good. we got to meet people from all over the business functions and find out more from them.
Not outside of work per say but through work but not directly related such as initiatives set up and groups and societies which have been formed
I would definitely recommend this to a friend as I found it a very worth while experience.
