About You
The spring program at Barclays was extremely insightful. You got the chance to attend a lot of types of events such as networking sessions, meet your buddy lunch, workshops, introduction talks, panel discussions etc. The other participants were also really nice and we spent a really nice time together on the program!
During the spring program at Barclays, everybody was trying to support us in what we need. We were assigned a buddy who we were able to contact at any time for advices. HRs were also available to help if we needed it and were guiding and supporting us throughout the program
As I am studying Maths, the information I received would not have a big contribution to my degree studies. However, considering going into a banking career, everything I have learn during this week would help me a lot further into my career path and would enable me to make a more informed decision about my career.
The Company
The program was very well structured. We were given a timetable before the program and everything was included in this schedule provided. The program was divided in 2 parts - Global Banking and Global Markets and this structure helped us to fully distinguish the two areas and find the more suitable one for us.
The people during the program were very nice, open and tolerant. It was easy to socialize and find new friends. The atmosphere in general was relaxed and calm at all times, people were talking with each other. There was no competition between us, probably just during the debates preparation time.
During the first day of the spring program there was a training which was approximately 3 hours. It helped us find out what kind of work approaches we have, what work environments are positive and negative, how to work in team etc. We also had a persuasive speaking session to prepare us for the debates.
I think the program gave us a very good insight into the working environment at Barclays. We had the chance to talk with a lot of different juniors and senior bankers and ask them about their day-to-day activities as well as experiences in Barclays in order to get a better insight.
Following from the previous question, we had a lot of opportunities to ask bankers at different levels as well as from different divisions about their experience at Barclays and how they find the working environment and company's culture. We also had a lot of panel discussions during which company culture questions were discussed.
I think one of the most beneficial thing from the program was really giving you a good insight into the different career options. You get the chance to attend various events and speak with very diverse people in order to have a better chance to see things from different angles.
Everything Else
During the program, as already mentioned couple of times, you have a lot of chances to network. There is a networking drinks event in the first night when you get the chance to network with senior bankers. We also have networking lunches every day when we have the chance to ask questions that came up during the program.
