About You
It was extremely insightful and before this I thought I knew what investment banking was but after completing the spring week I realised I knew very little and have now gained a vast amount of knowledge ( with the awareness that there is still much more to learn )
This is a difficult question because we were not doing any tasks for the firm however the fact that so many people took time out of their busy schedule to enlighten us and further enhance our experience made me feel somewhat valued.
The staff were phenomenal and very kind. Despite the fact that they are obviously busy, they delivered in their various time slots answering questions to a detailed extent and breaking complex details down when they intuitively felt we wouldn’t understand.
As I plan to pursue a career in finance, these will be very useful. I will uptake a finance module next year as well which would be expanding on what we have learnt. Although I do not plan to go into marketing , there are valuable skills to be kicked up from learning about that as well.
The Company
Very well structured. Everything worked smoothly especially and I was especially impressed by how quickly they produced a structure for the interviews and assessment centre.
Everyone was very kind, friendly and helpful - from the staff to fellow interns.
A significant amount : I value them taking time out of their busy schedules which was perhaps the single most important event otherwise the spring week would not exist. We were also able to utilise a wide range of resources ranging from the provision of books/pens to iPads in the trading game.
The presentations were informative as well as the Q and A sessions where you really had the opportunity to understand what life is like as an investment banker , not just what they do. Even more important , were the networking events.
It is one thing to describe a culture leaving you to visualise it in your head , and another to actually be there in person and be able to see how staff interact with one another and with us.
Thoroughly valuable as I really was able to understand what the different divisions to do. I have removed one star as I suddenly we had a little more time to decide. Nonetheless I was understanding of the time constraints due to the assessment centre timetable
Everything Else
We were given a one off payment to cover expenses.
Yes. There were endless opportunities to network and I have expanded on this under previous questions.
They were several styles of networking , be it Q and A at the end of a panel, staff rotation on a table , networking lunches and networking spaces. These all had their various advantages.
On the first day the panel of speakers were all involved in significant projects not directly related to work. Although I did not ask many bankers about what they do outside work.
Yes, it is an opportunity that should not be taken for granted especially if like me, you were previously uncertain about your career path.
