About You
Extremely enjoyable. The number of people that were my age and of a similar mindset made it easier to integrate but also to bounce ideas off eachother and have fun whilst doing the work. I really enjoyed listening to the insights on Financial Crime and Barclay UK Ventures, I will definitely be doing more research into these positions.
During my stay I've been at a 4* hotel, I've been at a very prestigious company, I've been considered to be on a highly sort after programme, just being here has made me feel valued beyond expression so to be able to take part in the events and recieve knowledge from all of the employers/employees is an added bonus to a very wonderful experience.
Well, we've had two work shadow days, two networking events and a whole bunch of different insights into how the company works and the details of all the fields. For me this has been an abundance of riches in guidance for what I may or may not want to pursue in the future as a career.
We've done work in groups, we've had lots of talks and work shadowing events. I think mainly for me I would be taking effective note taking skills back to univeristy so not just writing for the sake of it but learning to take down the key points of the event and still be able to pay attention to what is being said
The Company
Everything has gone to plan. Pretty much. There's never been a point during the week where I wasn't sure what we were doing or where I was going to be. This is largely due to the coordinators doing their job but again, it is testament to how the week was structured.
The atmosphere was very fun but also a good working atmosphere. Everyone came across very mature and dedicated but still able to have a good time and be friendly. I have made lots of friends during my time here and I'm certain the we will cross paths later on in our career/lives
The company has set up and organised a week of them pouring insight, knowledge and advice into us for a week, mainly for us to be assets to their company but more importantly to make sure we leave here with a better idea of what career we want to follow and how to go about it. I would say that is a lot of investment.
Helped me to understand a lot. Before coming to the insight week, I was more interested in the accounting and finance side of Barclays but during this week I've learned about so many different roles that are a part of radbroke campus and now I have a better idea of what it would be like to work at Barclays with all the insights into Barclays and workshadowing opportunities.
Being at Radbroke is like a campus feel, but everyone seems to know each other on more than work-only basis. The employees seem really friendly but also seem to be really enjoying themselves at work and helping contribute to Barclays being more of a tech orientated company. The culture is one of hard work but fun
Extremely valuable. As I mentioned previously I had more of an interest in the accounting and finance side of Barclays but learning about the different roles during the week has not only pricked my interest in different areas but also helped me decide what areas I may want to pursue in the future.
Everything Else
Barclays were very gracious in making sure all of my expenses were covered. They provided accomadation in a very high end hotel (best hotel prior to that for me was premier inn lol) and all food and refreshments was paid for during the week as well as travel and pay for attending the week.
Yes, we had two opportunities during the week were we did some networking and digging into what the company was about from the perspective of the people who work there. One day was more the graduates who were just starting and one day was the MD's and the senior directors who had been there much longer. It was interesting to see their different perspectives on what was required to be successful at Barclays.
The first one was a bit more informal and slightly more relaxed as it was in a bar, where as the other networking event was more formal and in house with a bit more of a formal approach to it and more of a structure to how it was run.
Yes definitely. We got given lots of links and tips on things that would help to improve our CV as well as our personal brand. One example was a couple of links we were given to develop our coding and app development skills outside of the classroom which I found helpful as I dont have a coding background.
I think I would definitley reccomend it simply because what is required is not really to do with a academics, I've met people on this week who do politics as well as people who do biomed so it's more about your attitude to learning and how determined you are to succeed
