About You
I really enjoyed the spring insight as it gave me a great idea about the cutting edge technology that Barclays is developing now. I also got the chance to meet a lot of graduates and senior employees of the company that helped me realize the potential job opportunities which I had not known before coming to the insight week. The networking sessions along with the presentations really helped me understand the way Barclays works.
In all the networking events or the work shadowing, the employees really made me feel good about securing the insight week and gave me prospects about a future career with Barclays. The senior employees were very friendly and helpful. They tried their best to make sure that we are comfortable with them and can make the most of this opportunity by asking them lots of questions.
I was extremely fortunate to receive continuous support throughout the insight. The senior employees and the graduates made sure that we asked any question that we had in our mind regarding Barclays and that they can to their best of abilities answer all the questions. [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] were always there as well to guide me throughout the insight week. Work shadowing and visits to the command centre helped me understand the day to day work of the employees at Barclays.
I learnt a variety of skills during the insight which I think is really going to help me in my degree studies and beyond. Some of these skills include management skills, punctuality and inquisitive nature. As a project manager for my second year University project, I really found the advice and experience of the senior employees helpful in understanding how to best manage the resources available. I also learnt a lot about potential career opportunities that I never knew existed in the technology department of a financial institution like Barclays.
The Company
The insight was very well structured with a lot of different opportunities to learn and develop new skills. The networking event along with the technology showcase roles were the highlights of the week for me. The group presentation gave me a good idea on how to work with different team members that come from different backgrounds. Work shadowing was also a great event that gave me a lot of insight in to the day to day life of a Barclays employee.
The general atmosphere of the insight was very encouraging and supportive. I really felt that I have had the perfect opportunity to learn and grow as a person. [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] guided me throughout the insight, assisting me with any queries that I had. The employees of Barclays took a great interest in developing the interns so that one day they can be the future of Barclays. It was really great to see the investment that Barclays makes in order to keep a healthy working environment which helps in increasing the productivity of it's employees.
I think the company really invested a lot in me to come to the Radbroke campus and gain a deep insight into the life of a Barclays employee here. The insight was also a great opportunity to network and increase my social circle. The company really tried to make sure that we can make the most of this opportunity by talking to the current graduates and senior employees of the company.
Events like technology showcase roles and work shadowing gave me a good understanding of what a typical day of a Barclays employee looks like. The employees were very kind to answer any questions that I had regarding their work and gave me the correct information on what to expect from a full time role. Visits to different areas of the company also gave me a good idea on what to expect from a full time role.
The insight was a great opportunity to understand the company culture. RISES is not something that the company just uses for advertisement but you can actually see all these qualities in the employees working here. I also got to know about the other opportunities that are available to employees during their work here like gym, football, relaxing area and gaming area.
The content delivered during the insight gave me a better understanding of the roles available within the company that cater to my expectations. Before coming to the insight week I didn't have a good idea on what career path to take in the financial industry, but now I have a better understanding on what I want to do. This wouldn't have been possible without the insight week.
Everything Else
Barclays were very kind to pay my travel expenses, arrange suitable accommodation and pay me a good amount for the insight week. This just shows how much the company cares about it's employees and investing in them. The company also paid for my meals everyday and arranged for transportation from my accomodation everyday.
There were plenty of opportunities to meet and network with other employees of the company. We had a networking evening where the graduates and senior employees explained their roles within the company and gave a good insight into their work. We also had a senior networking event where we had a chat with the senior employees. Work shadowing also provided a great opportunity into the life of a full time employee.
As mentioned in the previous question we had plenty of opportunities to network and learn about the various career prospects in the company. The senior employees and graduates tried their best to answer any questions that we had regarding their work. Work shadowing gave us a greater understanding of the day to day work of an employee in both developer and analyst roles.
After having a chat with few of the employees, I came to know about some of the activities that employees can get involved in outside of their work. During the campus tour we saw the gym, football ground, relaxing space and the gaming place where employees can go in their free time to revitalise and just take some time off for themselves. I also came across a flyer that advertised about a FIFA tournament to raise money for charity.
I would definitely recommend this insight to anyone who wants to get into the financial industry but is not sure about the opportunities that are available within the company. I really learnt a lot and made a lot of connections that will hopefully last even after the insight week. I would also encourage anyone who does not have a technical background to apply for the insight week because I came across a variety of people from various backgrounds. I learnt that all the company wants is dedication, enthusiasm and willingness to learn.
