About You
It was really exciting and engaging. It was very well organized, the presentations and insights are well developed and relevant to our level. The people and organization were lively and welcoming. It was one of the best experiences that I engaged with compared with other similar programs that I attended previously.
The organisation was good. The people responsible for us took good care of my accommodation, travel reimbursement, so it was good and I had no trouble with that. People from all levels spent time with us and I felt like part of the company even though it was only a week.
Prearrival information could have been more clearer but overall it was good. We had an app where we could find the schedule. If we had any questions, I felt that recruiters were always there to support us with any inquiry. I personally did not need much guidance as the structure was clear.
The information and insight I received really changed how I perceive the industry and the company (in a good way). I got a chance to develop communication skills the most as there were a lot of chances to engage with other participants and company representatives. Other skills include understanding of the industry and similar.
The Company
Sometimes the presentations felt too overbearing and contained too much information, but it is certainly not the case for all of them. We had a lot of practical demonstrations which I found engaging. Overall, we knew what was coming up, scheduled things started on time, there was no stress in that regard.
Other participants were really great and there was time to make friendships and not only LinkedIn connections. We had quite some time to spend together in couch travels, dinner and lunchtime as well as during group work. The atmosphere encouraged curiosity and asking questions. All speakers and employees were approachable and helpful.
The company invested in my well being in terms of providing the best housing available. We also received money for lunch as well as good dinners and breakfast. In other areas, there were a lot of workshops. We had CV, interviews, leadership, personality workshops. The personality workshop was very engaging and lead by professional guru.
This insight program really changed my perception of the company. We had a lot of work shadowing sessions which were really relaxed so we could asks all sorts of questions from personal background to work-life balance. In addition to that, there was a chance to network with people from different areas of the company.
The culture at this company is really open and focused on learning though asking stupid questions. And it is not just a slogan! This worldview penetrates all areas of Barclays from developesr to project managers. It really showed during presentations and work shadowing where the presenters answered all questions stupid or not.
During the day we got a lot of presentations which helped me understand the industry. I did not know a lot about it beforehand, so it helped a lot. Other parts of the day, like trip to Eagle labs uncovered the scope of Barclays impact which was new for me. I will take these things into consideration when deciding on my future career.
Everything Else
My travel expenses and food was reimbursed or bough. At the end of the program we were promissed some money for other expenses, so there is no issue with that.
There were myriads of opportunity to engage. We had a networking session with current students in the graduate program which was structured in really engaging format a bit similar to speed dating - we were split into small groups and graduates were rotating. There was also a chance to network with people in seniority.
I felt really immersed and engaged socially since there were a lot of interesting people around me. There was plenty of free time to get to know my fellow Spring Week students. Other social events were networking evening at a local restaurant as wells as networking sessions. The atmosphere was great in all of them.
I found out tons about what employees do after work. There is a football stadium where you can play with your colleagues, on site gym, restaurant. The atmosphere is rural and the site look great with a lot of windows to nature. There is even a track around the site to relax.
Yes, it has been great and engaging. Definitely, something to consider and participate in.
