About You
I enjoyed my time spent on the Insight Week with Savills. The team that I was placed in were incredibly friendly and supportive. They gave me lots of very valuable advice regarding how to become a chartered surveyor which was very helpful of them. Also, they genuinely seemed like they wanted me to enjoy my week with them.
I felt very valued during my Insight week with Savills. Any work that I produced all team members really appreciated it. I was treated like I was part of the team which was made my time at Savills much more enjoyable as I had the chance to be involved with current projects.
I received lots of guidance and support throughout my time at Savills, every piece of work that I was given was clearly explained to me and they encouraged me to ask questions if I was unsure of what I had to do. If I wanted to find out about one particular area in more depth, the staff were very willing to spend some time with me and explain more about it.
As I am on a real estate degree, the skills that I learnt and developed this week will be invaluable to my degree and as well as my future career in the property industry. Some members in my team also introduced me to some of the software that they use on a daily basis to help them do certain calculations.
The Company
I felt that the week was relatively well structured and I always had work to do which I really liked. I was definitely kept busy by the team that I was working in. I liked the variety of the day, for example, some days we would have some audio seminars in the morning on different areas within Savills.
The atmosphere on the whole was very positive and everyone was very encouraging. Everyone in the office seems to have a very positive view on their work and they enjoy being at working with one another. They also really wanted me to enjoy my week spent at Savills which made the experience all the better.
Savills really did invest in me over the week, as I was given lots of training and guidance on the different programmes that they use. Lots of the graduates also explained in depth what the APC entails and how Savills support you throughout in order for you to gain the qualification.
I was given tasks that a graduate at Savills would undertake on a daily basis so in terms of helping me understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company it was very realistic. Which I really enjoyed because it helped me clarify whether this is something I want to be doing.
The insight week definitely helped me understand company culture, I understood that the company likes to make everyone feel equal for example, directors sat beside associates there was no wall or separate office. This was really nice to see that everyone in the company is really valued and how important working in a team is to them.
The content of the day was incredibly valuable as I was given tasks that I would carry out if I wanted to be part of a development team in the future. Therefore, it helped me clarify this is what I like to do and what I need to do in order become part of this team.
Everything Else
I was reimbursed for all travel costs that I incurred over the Insight Programme as well as this I was reimbursed for my lunch over the week that I was there with Savills. Also, even though it wasn't applicable for me but you could be reimbursed for any accommodation costs that you incurred over the week. The maximum amount you could claim back was £100.
We had two official networking events over the week. At the start of the week though, my mentor introduced me to everyone in the office and all the separate teams within the office. Then on later in the week, I attended a lunch with the development team that I was with for the Insight week and then we had networking drinks in the evening with graduates from the Savills office.
I throughly enjoyed them, the graduates were super friendly and encouraged me to ask them questions about how they got their job today and what they did beforehand e.g. degree wise. They also gave me incredibly helpful tips on how to get the most out of my degree. It was really nice to chat to everyone and get a chance to speak to some people that I hadn't spoken to speak to yet in the office.
Yes I did, there is a huge variety in activities that employees can get involved in outside of work, there is something for everyone. A few of the graduates were telling me about some of the sporting matches that they have taken part in outside of work and how they have throughly enjoyed themselves.
I would highly recommend this insight week to a friend who is on a property related degree as the experience is invaluable. Even though, it is only a week because it is so well-structured by Savills you definitely feel that you have accomplished so much by the end of the week.
