About You
It was extremely insightful and considering I had no clue about investment banking before and left with a considerable amount of knowledge I couldn’t be more satisfied. I also really enjoyed meeting other students just as curious and determined like me and be able to talk to them about their life experiences.
Everyone at Barclays made sure that we knew how much they valued us, it was also clear since the spring weak was incredibly well organized and so many employees were willing to take time away from their jobs even though I’m sure they were pretty busy just to help us get more insight into Barclays.
The HR team was always willing to help, they made sure to assist us with everything we needed and the app was a great idea for us to communicate with them even when not in the building. They also made sure we felt comfortable on the day of the interview/debate which I think was very nice of them.
The information I received was definitely crucial for my understanding of investment banking thus it will be used by me for much more than just my studies but for my future career path in general. The IDG section also gave me amazing presentation skills and insight into my own personality.
The Company
It was was very well structured and we were able to get insight into all the different areas of banking. The only thing I would suggest was to have made the networking on the first day before the IDG so that we would not be that tired when networking with senior Barclays employees. Also, I would have made the networking of investment banking and markets on the same day because sometimes on the market days you learnt things and wished you could ask those questions to people from the investment banking area just to compare those areas but since it had been on the previous day you couldn’t do this.
Everyone was extremely motivated and willing to learn. Great questions were always being asked and you just learnt so much all the time. I feel like the HR team made a great job on selecting participants (both the students and the Barclays speakers) because everyone was clearly so eager to be there and share their knowledge/experiences.
It was obvious since the start how much the company invested on us. This was even more clear when they got an external company (IDG) to come and teach us extremely valuable skills for debating/ presenting and by paying all our expenses, getting us great hotels etc - they helped us grow and develop and made sure we knew we were valuable for them.
It was crucial! Again, before coming I had not much understanding about investment banking or what it was like working at Barclays. All the networking opportunities and panels made sure I knew exactly what I was getting into and the different roles and sectors that you can work with if you chose to go to Barclays.
So much! Before actually going to any company and talking to people who work there you can’t realistically know much about it’s company culture besides what you can find online which is not always true. Everyone kept telling us how supportive Barclays is and how the company invests on your personal growth which obviously I great!
It was crucial. The case studies were extremely exciting since you got to try out what you would actually be doing if you chose that area. The speakers also were very informative when sharing their experiences and their typical day at the company. And the networking made sure that any doubt you could have would be clarified.
Everything Else
Honestly being reimbursed was already great but being paid even better!
So many! Every single day there were many networking opportunities. It was actually my favorite party of the day since I had direct contact with people who actually work in the company and could tell me exactly what I would be getting into and share there experiences and they even gave me tips!
Insightful! Everyone had so much to say and share with all of us. It was also great that they were informal and you were free to ask as many questions you wanted (given time constraints of course). Also since they were all from different sectors of the company you could get information from all the areas that might be interesting (or not) to you.
I didn’t actually but I don’t feel like that was a problem. I didn’t even think about that until now. We did learn however about some diversity societies from a Barclays which you could be part of regarding race, religion and sexuality. Those are great to make you feel comfortable and valued as an individual.
100%! I loved it!
