Student Review

It was a really enjoyable programme - a very packed 3 days but something which was really useful to gain insight into all the practice areas of the firm, as well as the culture at Rothschild & Co. It was very well organised so I felt engaged at all points throughout.

We were given lots of time by all the staff at the firm - both from HR and from the analysts and more senior members of the firm. They put in effort to answer our questions and even gave us their contact details if we had further things to ask afterwards.

We were able to ask lots and lots of questions after every talk and workshop, so I felt really supported in deciding which practice areas I wanted to apply to. They were also helpful with logistical questions and making the structure of the programme really clear at all times throughout the three days.

It was really informative about the firm and what an investment bank does, which will help any future applications to the firm. They also helped with general interview and presentation skills, which was very useful as the workshops were given by experts in the field. I feel this will equip me well for later life.

Every time slot was filled by appropriate and exciting activities - presentations, talks, work shadowing, workshops, networking events and more. Even though it was such a short programme I really felt they made best use of the time so we could really understand the firm and it’s work and this made it very engaging.

I loved meeting the group (around 20 girls) who were really friendly throughout, and the staff were helpful and welcoming at all times. The culture of the firm also appeared to be equally friendly, as analysts went out of their way to help us out and give us any advice we asked for.

They gave us a presentation project which really helped me develop my presentation skills and to develop my skills in research and analysis. This helped me understand topical issues even better, and practise communicating my ideas with a large panel of senior staff. This was a great way to develop my personal skills.

Although it is impossible to know if you will like a firm once you start full time, this was as close as you could get - we were fully immersed in the company, especially with the work shadowing sessions, and could understand the culture and work life of the firm better.

The company culture strongly came through during every talk we had - they went through the history and culture of the firm, we even visited the archives they have in the office and we were able to meet so many people across the firm that we could really appreciate the culture.

It really inspired me to apply to the firm as I love the culture - it also opened my mind up to different practice areas in the firm, such as wealth management, so it helped develop my thoughts even past my first couple of years of working, which was excellent

They paid for our lunch in the canteen everyday (which was very nice and cheap anyway), and reimbursed our travel costs up to £100. If you require somewhere to stay they will also pay up to £100 a night which is very generous. Overall it was entirely cost free to attend

Everyday, we met more and more staff who were happy to talk to us and even gave us their business cards so we could contact them further. I met staff from HR, investment teams, wealth management teams etc., which was really helpful and great to create a network within the firm

We had drinks at the end which were really fun but apart from that there wasn’t much time for socialising on such a short programme. We played icebreaker games at the start though to get to know everyone which was fun and we got pizza when we had to stay late!

We were told in detail about their charity opportunities and the mentoring and tutoring schemes they do. We also learnt about their social events, ski trips and the tight bond teams have inside and outside of work. This was very exciting and useful to learn in order to motivate my application

I would definitely recommend - I was unsure about the sector before but now I am excited to apply here. It was a really fun way to experience the firm and I learnt so much even in 3 days so I am really pleased I was invited to join the scheme
