About You
Overall, I very much enjoyed the placement. EY took great care of me, paying for my plane down from Scotland, and providing accommodation/breakfast. They also provided lunch on both days, and dinner on the Thursday. There was great involvement from recent graduates who were attending the event, giving a more honest opinion of the company and their work.
I was looked after brilliantly. As mentioned above my transport (up to £150), hotel, breakfast, lunch and dinner were all paid for. There was also a social on the Thursday night, and throughout the whole event you could really tell EY had invested a lot of time and money on you.
Each table group had a recent graduate who helped to facilitate the discussions. This, along with the 3 or 4 student recruitment staff who were present all helped to create and atmosphere where you knew you could ask almost any question - from those relating to work to enquiring about what was for lunch.
I didn’t feel like I developed too many new skills during the event, as there was only 1 major group discussion project. I did however feel like I received a lot of info about possible service lines and job opportunities, which has allowed me to make a much more informed decision on what I want to do.
The Company
Good overall, with a clear layout of what we were doing on both days. There was perhaps a little too much emphasis on talks on the first day, and it might have been good to spread out the service line talks over both day - though I appreciate it is good to get that insight initially.
Very friendly, partly due to the nature of the participants. Everyone was happy to speak, and the large diversity during the event appeared to make all feel welcome. The EY staff were also very friendly, and were happy to talk about any different issues you might have. The social also helped to improve the atmosphere on the Friday.
There wasn’t any specific personal training during the event - it was mostly to provide information about the various service lines
Got a specific talk about each of the service lines, and also was a able to casually converse with lots of recent graduates. This gave a reasonably clear idea of what life at the company would be like, and also roughly what people do on a day to day basis.
Generally, the people who were attending the event gave the best impression of culture - one which is much friendlier than the other big 4. There was also a focus on the second day on the EY foundation and diversity and inclusion - this felt slightly forced, but it was good to see the company highlighting it
The information, insights and perspectives given about the various service lines was incredibly valuable to me. It has helped to clarify which role I feel like I would suit, whilst also showing me what other sub-sectors are available to move into after the graduate position. It was also nice to see all the positions represented
Everything Else
Hotel, breakfast lunch and one dinner paid for. Up to £150 travel expenses reimbursed
There were multiple opportunities for informal chats with recent graduates throughout the 2 days. This was further reinforced by the “speed networking” on the 2nd day, where there was an opportunity to speak to more senior employees. During this however, it felt like the group size was too large, and the time too small for everyone to ask a question
In addition to the networking above, there was also a social on the Thursday night. This was primarily for the participants of the program, as there were no other EY staff present. It was however good to enable us to make some more friends, which helped to make the Friday more enjoyable.
Yes, but only really about the Ey foundation. Flexible working was also mentioned, along with various networks - these weren’t really elaborated on however.
Yes - was every enjoyable, and I feel has very much helped my future job prospects, especially with EY
