    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I really enjoyed the insight. I was able to meet other students from a wide range of universities and subjects studied. The second day of the program took place at the EY office in Canary Wharf. Having never previously visited this part of London, this in itself provided a brand new experience for me.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt very valued during my time at EY. People at the company were very happy to answer questions and to talk about their experiences at the company. The company covered my expenses in travelling to London as well as a hotel stay for the event, which helped in making the event accessible to attend.

    5/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • We were given a good amount of guidance, particularly during our preparation for the group case study, where our mentor was very helpful in providing pointers that allowed us to perform to the best of our abilities. We received advice on what the next steps are in applying to work at the company.

    4/5

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I study a very theoretical degree, so none of the information received shall directly assist in my degree. My time at the insight has given me an end goal to work towards, which has helped to make me more motivated to perform well. The skills and information shall become very useful in my early career. I feel far more confident in how I can apply my STEM background in the workplace.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The event was well structured on the whole, managing to include presentations from both graduates and more experienced staff from across the business in only a short period of time. The timetable also provided lots of opportunities to meet with other students during breaks throughout the day. My only comment would be that sometimes I felt that I would have liked more time to chat to some of the members of staff during the speed networking event.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The atmosphere was positive, reflecting well on the company culture. It was pleasing to see how how optimistic the company is about recruiting people from STEM backgrounds. Members of staff were all friendly and approachable. Networking sessions felt natural as members of staff were able to give an honest opinion of their experiences of working at the company.

    5/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We were given feedback and the opportunity to reflect after our group presentation which I found helpful in identifying what I could improve upon for similar problems.

    3/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • We were given a good insight into the many service lines at EY. From hearing from employees working in them we got a good feel for the day to day activities of these roles. We were also introduced to the summer internship and graduate opportunities. Following the insight I am now able to compare and contrast the various service lines.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • The event was somewhat helpful in gaining an understanding of the company culture. Employees were full of praise for their experiences at the company. I had conversations with some employees that had joined the company as experienced hires, they highlighted the company culture as one of the main benefits to working at EY compared to competitors.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • My train tickets were paid for as well as my hotel stay.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • There were many opportunities to meet with employees. Many of the employees that gave presentations would remain around afterwards, this allowed me to ask more in depth questions than would be possible than during the talks themselves. On the second say there was a speed networking event, giving us the opportunities to chat with employees from all areas of the business in a quick fire way.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • The networking opportunities great. I was able to network with other students as well as with members of staff. In the evening of the first day we went bowling and I got to experience a Mario Kart VR game. As well as being good fun, this event also allowed me to speak to some students that I hadn't managed to speak to during the day.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • 3/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I would thoroughly recommend this event. I am surprised by how much I was able to learn in such a short period of time. Visiting the company offices allowed me to get a much better feel for the company than is possible from just online research. I also had a great opportunity to meet other likeminded students. As well as being information, the insight was also very enjoyable.
