About You
The insight was incredibly enjoyable. Each day was interesting and offered me the opportunity to challenge myself in Real Estate and Marine and International Trade. Both are areas of the law which Stephenson Harwood specialise in and it was a great experience to be allowed an insight into how a top law firm operates.
As a spring vacation scheme student I felt well valued during my two week period at Stephenson Harwood. Both my buddies and my supervisors were extremely welcoming and enable me to settle in immediately. It is certainly the sort of working environment in which I could see myself working in the future.
I received guidance from graduate recruitment and the departments in which I spent time. At no point did I feel lost, and regardless of the situation I always felt as though there was someone who would be able to answer any questions I might have. This demonstrates the excellent and inclusive culture of the firm.
I am currently studying a GDL at the University of Law in Manchester. My week in real Estate allowed me to practically apply some of the things I've learnt during my land law course. It was interesting to see how my legal studies can be applied in a real-life situation.
The Company
The insight felt extremely well planned and structured from the first day. I would say that as a result of this every single day has been slightly different. We have had the opportunity to learn about so many different aspects of the firm and that is because the two weeks have been meticulously planned.
It was fantastic to gain an insight into the atmosphere at a top London law firm. Although efficiency and professionalism are obviously of primary importance, the atmosphere at Stephenson Harwood is also inclusive, open and friendly. It encourages individuals to challenge themselves and work hard but also to be cooperative.
The firm invested a huge amount of time into my personal training and development. Most obviously, the opportunity to sit with a supervisor for a week gave me an incredible insight into the type of work Stephenson Harwood does and the standards expected of employees. As a result, I was able to learn by osmosis and pick up key skills and an understanding of how to be efficient.
The insight was great for understanding what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm. This is because I was given genuinely useful work and the chance to contribute to on-going cases and transactions. For example, in Real Estate I drafted a lease which was sent directly to the client.
Everything Else
The spring vacation scheme offered a number of opportunities to network and meet other employees of the firm. On the Tuesday night we had a networking drinks with trainees and every day, we were encouraged to speak to as many people as possible in order to extrapolate as much information as possible from this experience.
The spring vacation scheme offered a number of opportunities to network and socialise with trainees at the firm. On the Tuesday night we had a networking drinks with trainees and every day, we were encouraged to speak to as many people as possible in order to extrapolate as much information as possible from this experience. On the final Thursday we had a social at a bar nearby. This was a great chance to talk with trainees on a more personal level outside of the business environment.
Having learnt so much during the last two weeks I would definitely recommend this insight to a friend. Stephenson Harwood offers students exposure to great legal work within an inclusive and open working environment. Therefore, I would not hesitate in recommending the firm and its graduate recruitment team to a friend.
