About You
I thoroughly enjoyed my time on this placement- extremely friendly interns and staff, informative yet relaxed itinerary and a truly great insight into the industry, Unilever culture and the different roles available.
We were all treated like adults and I felt like everyone running the programme really valued all of the interns and their input about the programme and the company in general.
The itinerary was clear and all the timings of the activities were scheduled well. If anyone had a problem the leaders of the programmed dealt with it very efficiently. For example, I wanted to change functions for the assessment centre and the leaders made me feel really comfortable about discussing it with then and had no problem with my request. really appreciated this because although it was complicated I wasn't made to feel like it was an inconvenience.
Although the insight was short I learnt a lot about the skills needed to excel at Unilever so I will work on these in order to increase my chances of working there in the future. With regards to my degree studies and beyond, these skills are transferrable so will be helpful in any role I take on.
The Company
Very well structured! We were all emailed the itinerary beforehand and the timings were stuck to, so the programme ran very smoothly with a good balance between learning and relaxing.
So relaxed and friendly. Focused and instructive but not intimidating at all.
The activities were all geared towards informing us more about the roles we applied for and the company in general. There was a bit of practice for the assessment centre but not enough time for a lot of personal training which is understandable.
Really really helpful with this. I definitely got a sense of what it would be like to work there full time. We had a lot of opportunity to discuss this with industrial placement students and more senior employees. Very well thought out.
Gave us a true insight into the culture at the company, from talking directly to people to generally observing the office and how people worked.
We didn't get a lot of information on the separate functions but given the time constraints I wasn't surprised. Apart from that, it really made me even more determined to work for the company.
Everything Else
Unilever reimburse travel expenses and pay for the hotel and food (which was there was a lot of). I was personally shocked at how much money was invested in the interns- tells you a lot about the company and how much they really value those who work/want to work for them.
Loads in the dinners for both nights and even throughout the day. My LinkedIn is thriving now!
As mentioned above, great and extremely helpful. I got to learn more about what function involves through talking to employees and what their average day might look like. Really interesting. It's also worth noting that everybody I spoke to loved their job which is promising.
Yes, through people I spoke to at the dinners. These are mainly left to the employees themselves. You get out what you put in.
100%. I would even love to do it myself again. I don't see why or how anyone could not enjoy it and come out of it not having learnt a lot about the industry and company.
