About You
I thoroughly enjoyed the insight programme as it was an extremely insightful few days which allowed me to gain a much further insight into a career in investment banking, specifically at Rothschild & Co.. I also loved the fact that we were able to shadow bankers, as this is something that is rare for a short insight programme.
I felt very valued at the firm as I feel as if I was treated as if I was a full-time employee - they gave us entrance passes so we could go in and out rather than having to wait for HR to let us in every day. This also meant we were able to stay late to complete project work and able to let ourselves out when we were ready to leave.
I felt well guided throughout the programme - we were given a schedule of the programme on day one, meaning we were aware of how the day was being structured. I also felt well briefed for the group project presentation task, and we were given bullet points to research and include.
Although the information did not assist with my degree studies, the program provided me with an invaluable insight into a career in an investment bank. I also learnt much more about the different divisions within a bank and what their roles include, which is something that has helped me significantly when thinking about my future career path.
The Company
The insight was extremely well structured! It provided us with talks from employees in all the main divisions of the bank as well as a very useful talk from the student recruitment team about assessment centre hints and tips. Furthermore, the fact that they were able to fit 2 work shadowing sessions into the programme was invaluable and rare for a short insight programme.
I felt comfortable and at ease in the environment and I didn't feel under pressure of being significantly judged or assessed by HR members present in the room. The cohort was great and I made lots of friends over the few days. Everyone was very interested and eager, which created a great learning atmosphere.
I learnt so much about what it would be like to have a full time role with the firm through the insightful, division-specific talks from current employees and the two work shadowing that we participated in. We were able to ask questions to many employees at different levels, to learn more about what their role at Rothschild & Co. consists of.
Being in the company environment for 3 days not only allowed me to learn more about the company culture, but also experience it first hand. Furthermore, through the presentations, I was able to learn much more about how the company culture and values affects the how they carry out their work.
The content of the day was extremely valuable in helping me to decide on my future career path as the presentations gave me a much greater insight into what a role within each divisions actually involves, both on a day-to-day basis and a general overview. The work shadowing also further helped with this as I was able to watch an employee carry out their day-to-day tasks.
Everything Else
We had an hour long talk and question and answer session about the community investment at Rothschild & Co.. The firm works with charities to help children from disadvantaged backgrounds achieve their academic potential. This means that employees are able to volunteer their time and knowledge to tutor secondary school and sixth form students, to help them achieve their best in their GCSE and A-Level exams.
