About You
The insight was very enjoyable as I learned a lot and made great connections. The week consisted of various work shadowing and networking sessions as well as presentations and group exercises. The employees were very helpful and approachable. The other interns were friendly, from different backgrounds and nationalities which shows that Jefferies cares about diversity.
During my time at the company I felt very valued and welcomed by the employees. Especially during the work shadowing, as they took the time to explain to us what they did, and answer our questions. I didn't get the feeling that I was bothering them during their work which made the experience practical and enjoyable.
I received a lot of support during my time at Jefferies. For example, I chose to intern in a division, and following the work shadowing sessions found out that this division wasn't for me and I wanted to experience another division. I told HR and they introduced me to employees in this other division who showed me what they did on a day to day basis. A few people that I met when i was shadowing in my first division even had a chat with me to see my reasons for wanting to change and gave me some advice. This goes to show how caring and helpful the people at Jefferies are.
I didn't really develop skills that would help me in my degree studies. However the skills I developed and the information I received will assist me in my life and especially in my career later on. Furthermore, I made connections that will last a long time, and that will help me one day in the future without a doubt.
The Company
The spring insight week was well structured and organised. On the first day we received a timetable for the whole week containing various activities. We knew what we were doing which made it easy to organise ourselves beforehand. The timetable was respected. There were no delays, no sudden major changes or any kind of disruptions.
The general atmosphere during the insight was surprisingly relaxed and pleasant. The employees were extremely nice and approachable. Furthermore there wasn't a feeling of competition with the other interns which made it easy to make friends. We felt valued, and received a lot of guidance from junior and senior employees.
The spring week gave me a great insight to understand the company culture. Since day 1, the employees were very friendly, approachable and helpful. They welcomed us and made us feel valued. I never would've known that unless I had attended this spring week. I would advise everyone to attend an internship as it's the best way to learn about a company.
The content of the day was crucial in helping me to decide the future of my career path. The work shadowing and networking sessions gave me an insight into what it's like to work in 2 divisions and at Jefferies. This helped me to determine in which division I would like to pursue my career, and in which company.
Everything Else
I personally wasn't reimbursed as I chose not to be. But we had the option of being reimbursed for our travel, and diner (as breakfast and lunch were served at Jefferies). They also provided hotels which weren't too far, for people who didn't live in London or close to the Bank.
There were plenty of opportunities during the week to network and meet employees of the firm. Jefferies organised multiple networking events with junior and senior employees from different divisions in the Bank. We also had the opportunity to meet employees during the various work shadowing sessions and presentations given by seniors.
I would definitely recommend this insight to a friend. First of all, a spring insight week is a great way to learn about the career you would potentially like to pursue. It will also help you to determine whether you would want to work at the firm you apply to. I would especially recommend Jefferies to a friend, as the week was very well structured and diverse. The employees are extremely helpful and kind.
