The Role
I greatly enjoyed my placement within GE Healthcare. The working environment was fantastic and so were the people I worked with. I has given high levels of responsibility and exposed to numerous different tasks and departments providing me with a very well rounded view of the business and all operations.
I was given very high levels of responsibility and carried out similar tasks to the full time employ meaning i wasn't left to do the typical 'intern' role. Everyone was quick to praise and happy to help in any situation I felt uncertain in. They would make it known when I completed a task to a good standard, keeping me motivated.
I received very high levels of support with one to one meetings with my manager on a regular basis to ensure I was comfortable and to help me if I needed it. There were also weekly team meetings for the same reason. Every member of staff was more than willing to assist me if needed.
I maintained a relatively standard level of activity. I ensured I always found something for myself to do if I wasn't busy and people were always happy to find something for me to do. When I became more experienced I had more to do and did become busy but that is what you want.
I had full levels of responsibility in all tasks I carried out. I had full ownership and I had to see them out from start to finish. Different tasks required different levels of interference and therefore when more people are involved everyone has equal accountability meaning everyone contributed to the task at hand.
The experience I have gained in my placement is invaluable. I have developed personally and professionally and this will assist me in every day life. The discipline I have developed whilst working will greatly assist me in my studies, as well as my much improved knowledge of how a multi national business operates.
The Company
The atmosphere had a perfect balance between fun and professional meaning it was very conducive to efficient working. People would always be working but never too serious or intimidating. The open environment meant that it was very easy to ask questions which meant I worked well as I wasn't afraid to reach out for help.
The placement was well organised with set plans and goals to meet throughout. I had a set role so time wasn't wasted deciding on what I would be doing day to day. The internship is what you make of it so if you make the most of the opportunities put in front of you then it is even more positive.
The company provide you with many opportunities to develop or get trained but again it is sometimes up to you what you involve yourself in. The more you attend, the more training you receive. It is what you make of it. If you search for specific training, they are happy to accommodate it mostly.

There are employment opportunities via the graduate scheme which is seen as a very beneficial scheme to be on. There are lesser options to get a job that isn't in the grad scheme as they are unable to keep roles for a year whilst you finish your time at university.
The Culture
All interns and staff got on very well meaning that there were lots of opportunities to socialise. There are a vast amount of places to socialise covering a large range of activities. The friendly working atmosphere meant people were happy to socialise and recommend places to go with others if they are unable to attend.
For a capital city (Cardiff) and most housing being very close to the city centre, all prices are very reasonable from housing to groceries. Transport links are great and at a high amount saving money and making everywhere very accessible. This means that socializing is made very easy with many people willing to socialise. There are a vast amount of places to socialise in.
Very good night life due to it being a city centre and a vast amount of bars/clubs. You are able to visit a lot of them and they all provide you with something different. There are also a lot of restaurants which cover all cuisines if drinking isn't for you.
There were many opportunities to get involved in, many being charity events but there are also a lot of social activities. You sometimes have to go looking for them rather than them being presented to you. The social environment in work is great so there is almost always something going on if you want to get involved.
