About You
Overall, I really enjoyed the Discover EY Women in Business experience. There were a variety of talks introducing the different business areas which were really informative , and it was especially interesting to hear the personal stories so many different people at EY who had come from such a wide variety of backgrounds. There were also lots of interactive tasks which helped me to identify and develop the skills that would be useful for a career at EY. In addition to getting an insight into the different career opportunities at EY, we also heard a lot about the company as a whole and about the other aspects of working there, such as the variety of networks which employees can be a part of and the volunteering opportunities which I found particularly interesting.
We received a lot of guidance and support throughout the two days. Everyone from EY was really friendly and approachable and happy to answer all of our questions, both during presentations and during the breaks. In particular, having a table helper was really beneficial as they could help to make sure we understood the tasks and answer any questions, and they were really helpful over the two days.
The Company
I thought the insight experience was really well structured. The introductions to each of the main business areas were really informative and helped us to understand the possible career opportunities, and these were mixed in with various tasks and networking oppertunities, so it was always interesting and engaging. Also, there were lots of small breaks which gave us the opportunity to talk to each other and ask questions throughout the day.
The general atmosphere was great. Everyone was really friendly and approachable, and there were lots of different activities and speakers so it didn't get boring. Also, the social event on the evening of the first day meant we were all able to get to know each other in a more relaxed environment, and helped us work together even better on the team tasks on the second day.
I think the insight was really informative and helpful in enabling is to understand what it might be like to work for EY. Hearing about the personal experiences of so many women was really helpful as it helped us understand the reality of working at EY at many of the different levels and within different business areas. Being able to talk to people during the lunch break was also really helpful. In particular, our table helpers was really helpful and gave us a really honest insight of the day to day responsibilities and demands of her role.
There was a big focus on the company culture, in particular diversity and inclusiveness. From the talks we could clearly see that this is a priority for EY and something that they're really passionate about. We were also told about the huge range of things to get involved with aside from work, like the various networks, and volunteering opportunities.
Everything Else
There were plenty of opportunities for meeting other employees. After each of the presentations, the speakers stayed for a bit which gave us the opportunity to ask questions, there was a panel event with women from different areas in the business, and there was a speed networking event which allowed us to speak to a large number of people in a variety of roles.
There was a speed networking event which was really useful as it not only allowed us to meet a really large variety of people from different business areas and ask any questions we had, but also helped us develop our networking skills, and helped us to focus on finding out as much as possible in a short amount of time.
We heard a lot about oppertunities employees can get involved with outside of work. There are a variety of networks, include a women's network and various cultural and faith networks for people to become a part of. There are also loads of volunteering opportunities within the EY Foundation which I found really interesting. Furthermore, flexible working hours mean people are able to maintain their own hobbies outside of work.
I would definitely recommend the Discover EY Women in Business event. It was really informative and helped me to decode what I want to do in the future, and everyone was so approachable and helpful. It also helped me find out a lot more about EY as a company. Furthermore, the women in business focus was great as it was really interesting and encouraging to see women in so many different roles and to hear about all there personal experiences. Overall, the experience was really encouraging and I feel like I gained a lot from it.
