About You
Amazing insight into the EY business, had talks from a huge range of employees, particularly assurance and tax. For example there was a talk from a representative of diversity and inclusion, and I feel she woke up and excited every single person in the room about the importance of it no matter what ethnicity or gender.
They booked me overnight at The Hilton due to my long commute, as well as paying for my transport. They put constant emphasis on making me feel comfortable and really sold the idea that they are an exciting, diverse and adapting company to work for. Having previously done work experience at a very similar firm, EY have made me feel far more valued.
Constant opportunities to ask questions, get answers and learn. They did focus on Tax and Assurance rather than the other two focus lines which I do feel a few attendees were upset about as they did not have the opportunity to ask questions about those divisions, but of the roles covered in the two days they were covered extremely well and anyone with even a fleeting interest in them should definitely attend.
The information received for me personally will definitely come into play in my later life when I apply to their later programmes. Who knows, they could be the distinguishing factors that could help me to get a job at EY. One of the key skills was talking to and socialising with other students you just met in a professional environment which really complements your university experience where you do so in a casual environment. Great contrast and very useful for my professional development.
The Company
Amazingly structured. EY was professional, the only blips they had were the projector going off for 10 seconds and a slightly unexpected fire drill which wasn't their fault but the owner of the building. They were prompt, kept to the schedule and had frequent breaks to stretch your legs and talk to other students. In contrast with similar programmes they performed extremely well.
Great atmosphere with a lively diverse range of people all very happy to talk to each other. The social they hosted allowed you to have fun and talk to a great deal of people. Bringing students over from all over the UK allowed me to meet students from a wide range of universities, and in fact I plan to collaborate with a member of a somewhat rival university to create a joint event all thanks to this opportunity at EY bringing us together!
In the space of two days and the countless pieces of information given to us we didnt have much time for personal training and development, we did receive some individual feedback at the end on our presentation however this was limited. I do not feel this was an issue as there wasnt much time for this! Also they did pay for us to have a social which I would consider to have helped our casual-professional networking skills, or at the very least our dart skills!
Whilst as I previously mentioned there was limited information about certain lines of service, for assurance and tax the information received was immense and anyone considering a career in either will definitely have a clearer mind now. Meeting so many employees and asking so many questions definitely has helped every single student.
The sheer range of employees from EY allowed us to get a great feel for the company culture. Meeting vegetarian, non drinking, faith observing and ethnic minority (predominantly) women and men was really inspiring to me as I got to observe viewpoints I didn't before from people that I really resonate with.
I did mention that there was a primary focus on tax and assurance yet this programme has definitely confirmed that I will be applying to EY in future. The culture, diversity and excitement within the firm had really sold it to me, and I can't wait to apply in my following two years at uni!
Everything Else
Reimbursed train travel and had my hotel room paid for.
Absolutely! We had speed networking which allowed us to meet employees from all over the business, 20-30 in 50 minutes in groups of 10-11. This was in addition to our table host (who is an employee) who developed a rapport with every single person on my table. Huge range of employees.
In addition to the speed networking I mentioned before, we had a social where we played darts, socialised, ate some food and had a great deal of fun. This was the highlight of the two days no doubt. Was extremely glad I went and got to meet so many other students.
Absolutely. My table host told me all about the socials and we had a range of talks which told us about the women's network, diversity and inclusion at EY and the charity associated with EY. I know that a lot of us were really interested by the EY Foundation, more than many thought they would, so it is good to see positive societal changes.
Definitely. Great opportunity to learn more about EY and grow your network. I was delighted when I got accepted into the programme but even more excited after it finished. Will be recommending this programme extensively next year extensively. The knowledge I have gained you simply can't find unlike, it can only be communicated face to face.
