    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I thought that the EY insight event was an enjoyable experience and a great opportunity to have. The insight only lasted for two days but the days were packed with many talks from different employees from different parts of the company. I did wish that the insight was longer than 2 days.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • Because the spring week only lasted for 2 days, I did not feel that me as an intern were of much use to the company but I would say that EY treated us extremely well and definitely made sure that we were having a great experience and were enjoying all the activities that were planned to take place.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • During this 2 days spring insight event, we were divided into tables and each table had a helper/mentor who currently works at EY who would answer absolutely any questions that we had and would go through each activity and explain what we had to do as a group. This was extremely useful as she was very friendly and was very honest about working at EY.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I don't think I learnt a great deal of skills apart from having the opportunity to present to a group of people and develop my public speaking abilities, however, the insight I have gained about EY and knowledge about all of their different divisions will definitely help me decide on a career choice for after graduation.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The insight was only 2 days but I do believe that it was structured well. On the first day, we were given talks about the tax and assurance division, we got to go inside the EY London bridge offices as well as network with different employees of the firm. On the second day, we received general talks about EY, their corporate social responsibility and the future of EY.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The atmosphere was extremely nice. Everyone was very nice from the other spring interns to the employees. I found it very easy to talk to everyone, even the current analysts who were willing to answer all of my questions and give me an honest view of their role and the company.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • This insight only lasted for 2 days so there was no real training or development programme but it was clear that on the summer internship next year in 2020, this will be provided and there is a big focus on helping you learn about EY as a company as well as the different divisions you can work in.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • The insight did give me a great understanding of what it would be like to work at such a company. The talks we received about the company were all very honest and everyone seemed to say that no two days at the company are the same. The employees also explained what it would be like to work there which really helped.

    5/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • The insight did give me a great understanding of the company culture and what it would be like to work at such a company. The talks we received about the company were all describing how EY differs from the other big 4 professional services firms and this helped distinguish what makes EY unique.

    5/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • The content was useful is you want to go into the tax or assurance schemes as a future career, however, if you are more interested in Corporate finance or advisory (consulting) then there was little to no emphasis on these areas which was disappointing. Extending the insight could allow these divisions to be included in the future.

    2/5

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • EY provided accommodation in the Hilton Hotel which is where the insight is held. I live in London so did not need accommodation but it is provided for those that need it. They also cover train tickets as well as provide food (breakfast lunch and dinner) which was extremely nice of them.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Yes, on the first day, there was a networking with analysts and senior members of the company. We were assigned groups and had 5 minutes to go around each of 11/12 tables and ask questions about each area in which the people worked out. Again, the biggest focus was on tax and assurance.

    4/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • EY provided us with a networking social on the first day of the 2 day insight scheme and this was extremely fun. We were taken to Shoreditch and we played darts which was great fun. This wasn't a networking session though, it was more of an opportunity for all of us to speak to each other and have fun.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Yes, we received a talk about EY's corporate social responsibility and the volunteering activities employees can get involved with. EY also have many sports teams and societies which was very similar to university ones that people can get involved with. The work life balance at EY was very clear to be balanced.

    5/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Absolutely. Although this insight is very short, I would 100% recommend this to anyone thinking of working at a professional services firm in the future or just wants to learn more about the opportunities that are available for summer interns or grads. The application process is easier compared to a lot of other places e.g. bank so its definitely worth a try.
