About You
Overall it was a good insight to banking and how the bank works. We got to meet a lot of people from the industry. At the same time, we had presentations on the different areas in investment banking and did games on how trading actually works. Also, we got to work in team by a final project.
We were inside a group and you could feel valued by how were your team work skills. At the same time, every time you said an idea you could feel valued by your team mates if they liked it or not and if we included in in the presentation. In the firm, we have not been assessed that much, only with the final presentation.
We had a schedule one week forehand. Aditionally, we had a call with all the spring interns one month before in which the recruiting team told us everything we had to do and prepare for the spring week, as well as having a guide book with all the info. During the insight, we did not have any feedback session as it was only 3 days.
We did not learn anything that was very technical, as it was only a 3 day spring week. Therefore, what I have learned will be very useful when I apply for the summer internship but I do not think that I have learned any extra corporate finance related material to apply it at my university. In terms of soft skills, we knew how to team work and these skills we be applied later.
The Company
The recruiting team put a lot of time on having a perfect schedule. We actually had the schedule one week early with everything really organised. I really enjoyed the fact that although we had to put our preferences on which divisions we like the most, during the three weeks we could see how each of them work and it was only useful for our final project.
All of the other spring interns were very competitive, came from other universities around Europe and were outgoing. At the end of each day, which we finished between 5 and 7 pm, we all went together to have drinks or dinner and I really enjoyed the time we were all together.
They invested on us a lot because they payed us the flights and booked us a very nice hotel. Equally, during the three day spring week they gave us breakfast, we had always coffee and water in the room. In the afternoon they gave us food such as cookies and fruit. In terms of personal training, as it is a short internship, we could not receive any.
It was very useful as we could see all the divisions of the firm. A lot of firm experts came to talk to us about what they actually did, what was it a "typical day" in their position and we had a very interesting case presented by the people who managed one of the most impressive IPOs that the industry has been involved in.
It was very useful as we had the opportunity to know people from the other divisions by the presentations they gave to us. By this, we could see how the people from the industry were. At the same time, we had networking events in which you could have more one to one presentations and understand the UBS culture.
It was very valuable because although we only had three days, we could understand how the company worked. We could get to know people from all divisions and see if they were the people we wanted to spend 15 hours a day. Also, we could see how they worked by the powerpoints they had and looking at the minor details.
Everything Else
Flight and accommodation.
Excellent, we had two networking social events with people from the industry.
They were very useful because you could actually have one to one conversations.
No, they did not present it to us now societies.
Yes because it s very usefull to understand how UBS works and how the workers are.
