About You
Yes, it was great.
The firm really put a lot of time into making the scheme as best as it could be. The graduate recruitment, trainees and partners all really put a huge amount of effort into every aspect ofthe programme. Many busy people with demanding jobs took their time for us, which was amazing.
Graduate recruitment were there for our every need and they guided us throughout the whole programme. They were all approachable and friendly making it very easy to ask for advice or help with anything that we needed. They also supported us with explaining the next steps in the application process and what would help us really stand out.
We were definitely given some critical information especially surrounding applications, cvs and general advice for going into the law. However as a second year student who had done quite a few of these insight schemes previously I did feel at times that I knew some of the skills that were taught to us. However, that was only in regard to some aspects and overall he information provided and skills learnt were critical.
The Company
Extremely well structured. From the moment we entered the firm to the last session on the third day. Everything was structured and we all knew where we had to be. Any dla employee knew exactly what they had to do and their contribution to the scheme. This made me feel very welcome.
Overall it was great. Everyone was extremely friendly and the atmosphere was excitable. I would however warn future students that the scheme takes 85 students which is very big for an insight scheme. While on he one hand that's great because you can meet many people, on the other hand it can be quite overwhelming at times.
Yes all the trainees and partners that spoke to us were very open about their life and work at the firm. I felt as if there was a very honest approach to answering questions which was amazing, especially in gaining a true insight. Also we had various presentations such as on the firm's DnI policy -these were very helpful in understanding what dla is all about.
We gained loads of knowledge on the culture. Generally speaking to people helped a lot. But talks given by senior partners and by pro bono lawyers truly helped enhanced the understanding of how dla approaches culture. It was a great first hand experience and it really made me want to apply to the firm.
Very helpful. It explained the future steps and how we should go about the application process. Also trainees and grad recruitment explains the secondment opportunities and other possibilities available to employees, such as a seat in pro bono. Dla really highlighted the firm's future ideas and how we should be thinking if we want to apply here.
Everything Else
We had a trainee networking lunch and activity.
There was less networking than in other firms. But plenty of time to network between one another which is invaluable because you don't know who you could meet, possibly someone in your future trainees cohort. There were talks from some of the most senior members of the firm which I thought was even better than networking.
There were various activities to get involved in and employees also got involved and even judged the activities which was great to hear their insights and perspectives of what they thought about our work, especially from such an inexperienced position. Overall this aspect was a great part to the scheme.
Definitely.
