About You
I really enjoyed the day in general and felt that the company showed what they could offer as whole and why they stood out compared to other companies in financial services. The day gave good background to what they expected so that someone that doesn't have background in finance could still see what a job role would look like.
In general at an insight day you can't particularly feel valued as it is a bigger group of people so one to one value is difficult to come by. However the networking exercise at lunch allowed us to speak to graduates and this was a good way to get some more personal advice and insight.
There was lot's of support into the application process and how best to tackle the different stages in order to work for a company like M&G. During a panel session the graduates/interns helped clarify any areas that may have still needed addressing in an environment where it felt less intimidating to ask for guidance.
I felt that the experience as a whole was really helpful when looking forward to the next couple of years in my degree and how to handle applications and studies. The experience gave me more confidence for future applications and also began to develop skills of networking with people in a professional environment.
The Company
The day was really well structured and the trading exercises throughout the day broke up talks well to keep us engaged throughout the day. Other insight days have been too talk heavy, the M&G insight day had a better balance of talks and more active tasks which made the day more enjoyable.
The atmosphere at the insight day was friendly from start to finish with all staff being really helpful and willing to give good advice. Many of the employees discussed how the culture was really good at M&G and this showed on the day with everyone coming across as really proud to work for the company.
I think as it was only an insight day they weren't there to invest in us individually but more to plant a seed that they are willing to invest in interns and graduates.
I think the different talks and question and answer sessions made it clear the different roles within the firm and what they entailed. The employees also discussed the extra work life elements that M&G offer, including the support through potential examinations and any extra outside of work activities such as volunteering.
The culture was made really clear and was a big selling point of the insight day. The employees discussed the extra willingness of M&G to invest in its employees and all the staff said just how impressive the culture is.
The content was really clear and not overly complicated or filled with specific jargon which made it accessible to any background.
Everything Else
I don't expect to be paid to attend an insight day. I thought it was generous to offer the day for free and provide lunch and refreshments throughout the day. A day out where the only expense to an attendee is any travel expenses with everything else covered is quite unusual.
Yes at lunch we were given the opportunity to network with employees working at M&G and discuss there experiences at the company.
The networking opportunities were good and just long enough. All of the employees were friendly and not intimidating at all which made the networking especially helpful.
Yes different employees throughout the day discussed different experiences outside of work. They made clear that there were opportunities to volunteer whilst working at the company. They also discussed the extra support offered to those study for exams and that the graduates received lot's of training and help with exams.
Would definitely recommend the day as a whole was interesting and offered lot's of help and advice for future applications.
