About You
A large extent, I was exposed to the market conditions, to clients as well as pitch books created for large financial institutions. I also enjoyed that I was able to spent time with colleagues and have an insightful conversation not only about their job and what they do everyday but their journey that led them to this position today.
Very welcomed and everyone was very approachable.
I was very happy that the HR people and in general the internship organizers had assigned us the interns with multiple people from our desk and our HR team that we could contact to communicate and question or concern we had in our daily life as a working intern in Nomura.
There were some personal skills like patience, perseverance and to be a hard working student, which are useful not only for university purposes and exams but also for the future. I find them super important for upcoming interview processes that I will go through as well as for any job opportunity that I might get.
The Company
The insight was very structured. Especially from the first day that we had to get over some very technical contracts and details as regards working in Nomura. We were also given with a specific schedule for the whole period of two weeks that we were interning in our desks, which were very helpful when organizing our time in the desk.
Very friendly and open.
I was very lucky to join a team where the people were super friendly and open to any questions I had. It was through my communication with them as well as the opportunity to shadow that I was able to become more expert to they what deal with everyday and become a more developed person.
To a very large extent, because after a couple of days of being in desk, you will have to adjust and help as much as possible the rest of the team with any way you can do so. Also I was introduced to the hours, the tasks and interactions they have with the clients.
The insight was an opportunity for me and the rest of the interns to interact with people within Nomura not just the employees but with every department. Through conversations and simple interactions with them I was able to understand the type of people I was dealing with and I saw a common pattern for most people I met in Nomura.
The content was very helpful, because when I first got assigned to the desk, I had no idea that such a team existed within the Investment Banking Division of any bank not just Nomura. So, shadowing for people and looking at past pitch books of old projects they had undertaken was super helpful.
Everything Else
Yes, the HR managers and all the other people involved in the organization of the internship programme were very thoughtful and had organized at least three networking events that also included meals. Thus, through that we had more time within each session and was able to meet and speak with more than 2 people each time.
As mentioned earlier, they were very helpful to meet new people even from different desks and departments than the one you were assigned in. Especially for people our age, this is something necessary as we are still looking for what we like in life, so getting a taste from as many desks as possible was helpful in that process.
Yes, and something that I was very happy to hear is that employees from the same desk or even from other team organize every year social events like dinners and tours that occur every season holiday. I was glad to hear that because I believe in building strong relationships with people you spend so many hours everyday.
Yes I would for sure. Most of my friends especially in the university, applied for such a position to Nomura as well as other financial sector companies so they are already aware of this insight. However, now that I was able to partake I would for sure reflect on and share my experience with them.
